MILWAUKEE, WI - A recent response letter from the senior legal counsel, Robin Van Harpen, on behalf of Chancellor Michael Lovell, sparked information to be sent today to decision makers of the faculty, senate, committee heads, deans council, foundations, union-association-alumni stewards at the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee. Mary Glass, Chair/CEO, Milwaukee Professionals Association/MPA sent a Notice of Discrimination to Chancellor Lovell that spoke to the recent discriminatory practices by UWM and UWM Helen Bader School of Social Welfare when "hosting the FEMA/Federal Emergency Management Agency Kick-off on January 26, 2012 at the Fireside Lounge in the Union Building at UWM.
Glass said, "It was apparent that the letter sent in response to me, failed to give all the relevant facts for an "on-the-merit" evaluation for the person reading it without context. "Plus, it stated that the University of Wisconsin was NOT interested in providing space or working with MPA." "Since the two (2) events were to help provide a FEMA-focused Preparedness Plan for the Milwaukee area." "I found the response to be MOST insensitive/heartless and just out-of-order for UWM as the public higher education site in Milwaukee." "Not to mention, that UWM chose to use the January 26, 2012 Kick-off of the national FEMA THINK TANK to self-promote with only 2 students in the Helen Bader School of Social Welfare - along with an UWM Alumnae; and, failed to involve/engage Milwaukeeans (MISSION of FEMA's kick-off) and other nearby stakeholders that survived the 2010 Flood in Lincoln Creek, Glendale, Shorewood and Whitefish Bay." "There was a young man attending UWM that drown in the flood."
The Notice of Awareness email sent three references of clarity and the Notice of Investigation requested by the U.S. Office of Justice - U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder.
Stay tuned.
