Profane and Racist Rant at Chancellor's Speech Says it All

CODE OF CONDUCT MATTERS

Milwaukee, WI
- University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, Ballroom West, March 30, 2011, a man in the audience interrupted Mary Glass, Chair/CEO, Milwaukee Professionals Association, while she gave the set-up for a very telling and pivotal question for Finalists No. 4 - Dr. Michael Lovell, Interim Chancellor at UW-Milwaukee.

The man in the audience was not only rude and disrespectful to Glass; he highlighted how "civility" is lacking in our society. He failed to respect himself, the process, Professor Schwartz - Chancellor Search Committee Chair (Schwartz rose and asked the man for civility), all there, all not there and specifically the people Glass was referencing - African American, Asian, American Indian, Latino and Work-Challenged Milwaukeeans.

His derogatory comment about "they", and profanity afterwards speaks to the need for a stronger focus on Civility and stressing its importance of appropriateness. Since this was an adult, what can we expect of those younger.

Ironically, Civility - Code of Conduct, moral compass and respect was part of the question that Glass was asking Dr. Lovell.

Glass waited for calm - she then continued. She was then followed by Clarence Nichols, Educator and NAACP representative, with the same emphasis of need to make those traditionally left out in the City of Milwaukee - viable and healthy - quality of life and economic development issues.

Breaking INFO - Unconfirmed rumor is that the man was a "plant" in the audience to diffuse Glass comments about the university and possibly Lovell.
