Dr. Lisa Rossbacher - UW-Milwaukee Chancellor FINALISTS No. 5

Dr. Lisa A. Rossbacher, President, Southern Polytechnic State University

Southern Polytechnic State University is part of the University System of Georgia, which is very similar to the University of Wisconsin System. Within this System, SPSU has a special-purpose mission to focus on science, engineering, technology, architecture, and related fields. The campus is located about 15 minutes from downtown Atlanta.

In 2010, U.S. News & World Report highlighted SPSU in several areas: a high freshmen retention rate, strong racial diversity, and good representation of international students. SPSU ranks #1 in the U.S. for the number of African-American students who earn bachelors degrees in engineering-related fields, and the largest single endowment fund held by the SPSU Foundation is dedicated to scholarship support for Hispanic and Latino students.

MPA Statement: There can be no misunderstanding about what the People expect from you and your responsibility for leadership at an URBAN University that is being called to honor both the name sake (Milwaukee) and the adjective (urban). We seek inclusion of ALL Milwaukeeans, especially those who have been consistently and by design left out of engagement - African American, other People of Color and Work-Challenged taxpayers, voters, stakeholders.

The TRIFECTA for Milwaukee Education and Technology attainment is locked in a myriad of resources and opportunities at the three levels of public schools – MPS (elementary and secondary), MATC/Milwaukee Area Technical College (2- year and certification) and UW-M, University of Wisconsin (4-year, graduate and beyond, employment certificated).

MPA – Milwaukee Professionals Association and many others at the NEIGHBORHOOD-LEVEL, eagerly and able to provide a NEW and successful journey from ECP/Enduring Concentrated Poverty to EA/Economic Affluence – A NEW Middle Class from the BOTTOM-UP.

Therefore, MPA - Milwaukee Professionals Association leadership statements above and a recent second letter has been sent to Dr. Rossbacher as well as all the Finalists for perusal.

We look forward to hearing Dr. Rossbacher's speech as well as participating in the Q & A.

Her topic: “Contemporary Challenges of Research Universities”.
