DOLLAR GENERAL MAKES RIVAL BID FOR FAMILY DOLLAR
BY SYDNEY EMBER

Dollar General said on Monday that it was offering $8.9 billion to buy Family Dollar Stores in an effort to break up its rival's planned merger with Dollar Tree, DealBook's Michael J. de la Merced writes. Under the terms of the deal, Dollar General would pay $78.50 a share in cash, significantly higher than the $74.50 a share that Dollar Tree's original cash-and-stock bid was worth when it was announced last month. Including debt, Dollar General's offer is valued at $9.7 billion

The emergence of the unsolicited takeover bid sets up a potential battle over the fate of Family Dollar, which has been under pressure from the activist investors Carl C. Icahn and Nelson Peltz. A combined Dollar General-Family Dollar would have almost 20,000 stores and more than $28 billion in revenue. Dollar General also expects to generate $550 million to $600 million of cost savings.

=================

FAMILY DOLLAR  is found throughout city center Milwaukee.  Over the years, there has been a concern from Milwaukee Professionals Association LLC perspective of lack of training of staff, stock on the floors rather than shelves, neatness of store, neatness of outside area and lack of access of members of management for communication of issues of concern and building better services.

The positives of Family Dollar are that it is accessible; in volume, merchandise competitiveness and cost.

We know that the customers in the city of Milwaukee frequent the stores and generate a lot of revenue that contributes to the their stock.

What is desired going forth?

Whether  Family Dollar decide to not sell; to sell to Dollar Tree or to sell to Dollar General, quality assurance, customer care in the store (merchandise on the shelves, not floor or boxes), trained staff and accessibility of decision makers to solve issues as well as management/decision makers accessible and working with MPA LLC for business capacity building, best practices, employment and communication for appreciation of business and services of the business.

Lastly, building owners where Family Dollar lease space (i.e., Lena's Family and Legacy Redevelopment Corporation) in Milwaukee have to take a closer interest in best practices on their part and the leasees they bring to the neighborhood.

For Lena's, it is more than one site.
