Japan Wins FIFA 2011 Women's World Cup , 2-2

Frankfurt, GERMANY - The FIFA Women's World Cup finals - The Japanese team pulled out a nail-biting win against the strong and impressive USA team. The Japanese team has competed 25 times before against the USA team, this is their first win.

Two extremely impressive penalty shoot-outs gives Ayumi Kaihori and Saki Kumagai a place in the history books during the match between the USA and Japan.

"I feel we have given some kind of encouragement and joy to the people back in Japan. That was always the motivation", said Ayumi Kaihori, Japan goalkeeper.

Kaihori saved two penalties in the shoot-out, from USA’s Shannon Boxx and Tobin Heath, to offer Kumagai the chance to win the tournament for the Nadeshiko, which she took in emphatic fashion to spark celebrations both in the stadium and their home nation.

Homare Sawa, 32-year-old towering superstar ends the tournament with adidas Golden awards, "best player" and "best scorer" titles. She has been to the tournment four times before.

adidas Silver went to Abby Wambach (USA).
adidas Bronze went to Hope Solo (USA).

The next tournament is in 4 years.
