Milwaukee County Chairwoman DIMITRIJEVIC joins Milwaukeeans in Juneteenth Day Celebration

Milwaukee, WI – Milwaukee County Board Chairwoman Marina Dimitrijevic will participate in Milwaukee’s Juneteenth Day parade on Tuesday, June 19.

Chairwoman Dimitrijevic and a number of her colleagues will march alongside a new clean diesel Milwaukee CountyTransit System (MCTS) bus.  MCTS will also hand out children’s activitybooks and crayons throughout the parade route.

“Many of my colleagues and I are excited to honor African-American heritage in Milwaukee,” Chairwoman Dimitrijevic said.  “The Juneteenth Day parade is a great opportunity to meet with residents and honor the progress we have made on civil rights. 

MilwaukeeCounty is the most diverse county in Wisconsin, and that diversity is our strength.”

Juneteenth Day was first celebrated in Galveston, Texas on June 19, 1865, and marks the ending of slavery in the United States.  In 2009, then-Governor Jim Doyle signed a bill recognizing Juneteenth as a legal holiday in the state of Wisconsin.
