SUNDAY, October 29, 2017
CITY-WIDE MILWAUKEE | This Sunday's information starts with Show #43, Public Policy w/Mary Glass & Company, Riverwest Radio, WXRW 104.1 FM, riverwestradio.com, 3:30 pm - 4:30 pm.

Show 43 - WI Election Commission & Veto Override
Today's public servant guests were from WI ELECTION COMMISSION & City of Milwaukee Common Council.

Recent notoriety from both areas of government has the citizens talking.

Guest:

Reid Magney, Public Information Officer - WI Election Commission

At the state level, we know of the news of Russian hacking of America's election process and we hear that personnel at the WI Election Commission was cut by Scott Walker, Governor.

Guest:

Alderman Tony Zielinski, District 14, City f Milwaukee.

At the city level, a Resolution was passed by the Common Council for the authority of the common council to elect and fire the police and fire chiefs.

The Resolution was quickly VETOED by Tom Barrett, mayor, claiming it politized the process.

To OVERRIDE the veto by Barrett, a 2/3 vote is needed by the Common Council.

======================

Alderman  Tony Zielinski, District 14 - represents the Bay View and Lake Michigan areas, opened the show with explanations to the audience of what the resolution is designed to achieve and why it was brought forth.

He encouraged the listeners to call 414.286.2221 and tell their alderperson to VOTE TO OVERRIDE the veto.

Take a listen.

U.S. stock futures were higher this morning following a drop for the Dow and S&P 500 on Wednesday. An extremely busy day for earnings is likely to be a key driver as the Dow and S&P seek a rebound and the Nasdaq tries to avoid its first back-to-back losses in about a month. (CNBC)

Among the major earnings out before-the-bell are results from Twitter (TWTR), Comcast (CMCSA), and Ford (F). Alphabet (GOOGL), Amazon (AMZN), Microsoft (MSFT) and Intel (INTC) are set to report after the bell.

•  Twitter surges 9% after results beat;but it recalculates active users (CNBC)

With the advent of the $3 billion Foxconn manufacturing plant (high-tech) in southeastern Wisconsin, the backyard south of Milwaukee; connectivity and communication of Smart Buildings in Smart Neighborhoods with Broadband become more and more acute for Asset Building - evaluation of elected-appointed-hired-donor for-hire government representatives, annual budgets, NEW developments in real estate, healthcare, safety poling*, public transportation, and research.

smart city is an urban development vision to integrate information and communication technology (ICT) and Internet of things (IoT) technology in a secure fashion to manage a city's assets. These assets include local departments' information systems, schools, libraries, transportation systems, hospitals, power plants, water supply networks, waste management, law enforcement, and other community services. A smart city is promoted to use urban informatics and technology to improve the efficiency of services. ICT allows city officials to interact directly with the community and the city infrastructure and to monitor what is happening in the city, how the city is evolving, and how to enable a better quality of life. Through the use of sensors integrated with real-time monitoring systems, data are collected from citizens and devices – then processed and analyzed. The information and knowledge gathered are keys to tackling inefficiency.[1]

    Speaker:
    MARTHA BROWN,
    Deputy Commissioner, DCD

CITY-WIDE MILWAUKEE | Today, it is necessary for Milwaukee Professionals Association LLC to give public notice of a closer look at MERI/Milwaukee Employment/ Renovation Initiative.  The initiative is best known as the Sherman Park $1 homes.  It was announced to the public on April 18, 2017.

MERI created tension in the city of Milwaukee due to the "misleading" rollout of the Department of City Development.  MERI is implemented by two city departments.  They are:

    • DEPARTMENT OF CITY DEVELOPMENT - MARTHA BROWN
    • DEPARTMENT OF NEIGHBORHOOD SERVICES - PRESTON COLE
The Department of Neighborhood Services is responsible for the demolition portion ($1 million) and the Department of City Development navigates the oversight of the administration of the MERI Initiative - personnel, BIDS, selling the homes and selecting the buyers.

It has come to our attention that the boundaries have changed from Sherman Park but the city has failed to notify the citizenry for due diligence and appropriate engagement of the MERI real estate program.

The state oversight organization for the US Department of Justice/Volkswagen funding is through the office of Greg Reiman, the Department of Financial Institution for the state of Wisconsin.

Martha Brown, Deputy Commissioner, DCD, has been confirmed to share information about the MERI program on Wednesday, October 18, 2017. She will provide clarity of buyers, purchases of the 100 homes, and updates for the purchase of homes.
