MILWAUKEE (MPA) - Now is the time for Milwaukeeans, especially African Americans to take lead and provide leadership that has stood the test of time. To use the opportunities that are afforded at this time (yes. at this time), and maximize them.
No. It does not take an army.
No. It does not take wealth of funds for to scaffold the plan of determination and Will-for-Success.
It does take "willing-mines" of "like-kind" with a seriousness that our forefathers brought into the hell-foundness slavery they found themselves in.
It was the Will-to-Succeed in spite of the brutality, entrapment, no funds that our forefathers and mothers used in slavery, in bondage, that have allowed a race of People to "rise", to still "rise", and to still "rise". If they could in mass not read or write, lived on plantations, were not paid for endless labor, denied quality of life and economic substance; I say get up. I say get up. I say you African American get up. Who are sitting ddown on. They paid too much of a price.
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. said, "how long"?
But, he then said, "Not long".
The not long depends on how the leaders step forward and ensure justice and to invest the means and way.
For it is then that the other things necessary for success will come into play.
Let's start with identifying and enhancing our assets. What assets you say?
Our People, our Land, our history and our investments layered in the United States.
Let's start with enforcement of the laws that are on the books.
Let's start with valuing our accomplishments and not allowing anyone to demean them.
Let's start with not settling for the other person's bait-n-switch games.
Let's start now to choose honorable and trustworthy African Americans to fill UPCOMING elections.
Let's use our noggin (academic and practicum) and call upon the school of hard knocks for wisdom.
Let's start with taking our personal chattel (skills, gifts, mother wit, property, family values, stewardship, self-discipline, and belief that right out-trumps wrong) to identify "hidden talent" and create economic engines in our neighborhoods.
We have always been innovators, engineers, architects, scientists, service consultants, service providers, peace makers, disciplinarians, teachers, care givers, doctors, legal strategists, parents, and inventors.
Our problem has not been that "we would not do", it has been we have been prohibited from doing.
All Hands on Deck, WE, Not Me Initiative. To redefine, re-brand and UN-TRAP African Americans, other People of Color and the Work Challenged (un-, under-employed; un-, under-degreed and certificated; un-, under-financed
neighborhood-level business; disabled; and re-entry - especially those returning
from WAR, INCARCERATION, BOOMERANG EMPLOYMENT,
BOOMERANG RETIREMENT and DEGREED students without
employment).
Get your house in order, I will be back. No one is exempt.
