Eviction Triage for Milwaukee – COVID-19 Public Health Moratorium Extension –
October 3, 2021 (61
days)
CLICK - LISTEN - CNN
Yesterday, the Centers
for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) instituted a new moratorium on
evictions that will run until Sunday, October 3. The new moratorium applies to
counties across the country with “substantial” and “high” levels of COVID-19
transmission.
“The recent spike in COVID-19 in many major cities, including Milwaukee, has continued to create an economic struggle for so many. I want to thank those leaders in Congress who recognized this and fought for an extension of the eviction moratorium,” said Alderwoman Milele A. Coggs. “There is still, work to be done, and stakeholders in Milwaukee have to continue to work collaboratively on solutions to what may become a housing crisis, not just for the renters, but also for the property owners.”
Given
the short-term nature of the extension, Alderwoman Coggs encourages residents
to remain aware of assistance options that exist in the city. Among those
options available are:
· Social Development Commission’s Milwaukee Emergency Rent Assistance
program: https://www.cr-sdc.org/services/mera or (414) 906-2700
· The Milwaukee Rental Housing Resource
Center online at www.renthelpmke.org, by phone at (414) 895-7368 or email info@renthelpmke.org.
· Community Advocates at www.communityadvocates.net, (414) 270-4646 or renthelp@communityadvocates.net.
· Take Root Milwaukee for assistance with
mortgage issues/foreclosure: https://takerootmilwaukee.com/ or (414) 921-4149.
· Housing Resources, Inc.: https://hri-wi.org/ or (414) 461-6330
