40 Years After Kerner
The City of Milwaukee has received approximately $319 Million over the last four years in state and federal funds. People of Color make up the majority population (58.8% - 2000 census) of Milwaukee. People of Color and the Working Poor bring to the city coffers the bulk of federal dollars; and, sizable residential and commercial property taxes. From time to time, they are mandated to pay “special taxes”. Yet, they are the brunt of chronic poor ratings in studies, lack of quality of life issues; and, economic development opportunities. They are not valued in “decision making”, best practices, and quality customer care. In fact, most often are the last to be informed, if at all informed.
There is something inherently discriminatory and wrong here.
This is an OPEN LETTER
of research by Mary Glass, Chair-CEO, Milwaukee Professionals Association
LLC/MPA-LLC to Thomas Mark Barrett, Mayor of Milwaukee, Wisconsin on April
11, 2008 – Over 13 years ago.
It is re-issued on May 17, 2021 – 2020 COVID-19 Pandemic TAX date.
Glass starts with the landmark 1967 Kerner Commission report ordered by the 36th President Lyndon Baines Johnson to research RIOTS of 1967 – Milwaukee was one of the cities that rioted.
At the time of the research of Barrett’s
administration (2004-2008), the Kerner Report was 40 years old. It is now, 53 years.
Conditions in Milwaukee under the 17-year administration of Tom Barrett has further exhibited racism, discrimination, and lack of “equity inclusion”.
It is a Caucasian dominated MONOPOLY-OLIGOPOLY administration with Barrett (CEO of the city of Milwaukee) partnering with Milwaukee 7, Milwaukee Metropolitan Association of Commerce and Greater Milwaukee Committee commandeering federal-REGIONAL-state-local funding for outliers taken from Milwaukeeans – African Americans, other People of Color, and Work Challenged core constituents of the 96.8 square miles of the city of Milwaukee.
