As a Milwaukeean, African American Milwaukeean, I find the "People's Flag" OFFENSIVE

JULY 19, 2018
CITY-WIDE MILWAUKEE || "As a Milwaukeean, African American Milwaukeean, I find the People's Flag OFFENSIVE", said Mary Glass, Chief Visionary Officer, Milwaukee Professionals Association LLC.
=============
Designed by graphic designer Robert Lenz, the new flag symbolizes a number of tried and true Milwaukee elements. The gold represents beer or wheat. The circle represents the sun rising over Lake Michigan. The blue represents the city’s connection to water, with the lake and Kinnickinnic, Menomonee and Milwaukee rivers. The three lines represent the city’s three founders, Solomon JuneauByron Kilbourn and George Walker, and how they merged their communities together to form Milwaukee.

Since being unveiled in June 2016, the people’s flag of Milwaukee has become ubiquitous. In addition to hanging from flagpoles across the city, you can find the design on beer bottles, bicycles and as of last week on Milwaukee Brewers merchandise.   Urban Milwaukee

What People?
I do not see African Americans in its authenticity.

What People?
I do not see my brothers and sisters of American Indian, Asian, Latino, Work Challenged or other ethnic/CULTURAL groups depicted here for a 21st Century INCLUSION.

Going Forward
I understand Khalif Rainey, 7th District Alderman, Cavalier Johnson, 2nd District Alderman and Robert Donovan, 8th District Alderman are listed as supporters.  I say, "NO sirs".

Aldermen Rainey, Johnson, and Donovan, where is your data to show your districts' majority vote/support your decision here?

According to Urban Milwaukee, When asked what led him to sponsor the measure, Johnson stated: “Milwaukee needs a symbol that we all can be proud of and rally around.

What "symbol" in this flag that MAKES ALL proud and rally around, Alderman Cavalier Johnson?  What's wrong with you?

Where are you depicted in this flag?
Where are those that LOOK like you?
Where are your constituents support?
Where is the positiveness for your twins and other little boys and girls of color?  You should be ashamed.  I mean ASHAMED!

It is the same soup, failure to recognize the RICH, VARIED and IMPORTANT contributions of others as well as failure to be INCLUSIVE of the Core Constituents.

Caucasians are NOT the only "people" in the city of Milwaukee.

They are NOT the CORE CONSTITUENTS.
They are NOT the majority.
They are NOT the only ones with a meaningful historic past.

My race, African American, has worked from Day 1 of presence to make this city and this country what it is today, in spite of slavery, cruelty, and inhumane treatment by Caucasians and those elected, appointed, hired and donor for-hire government representatives.

Right now, the absence of African American in the documentation of my people is just reprehensible.  We helpED to build the city hall you three (3) are allowed to go to each day, but there is NO REAL depiction of our men's name or meaning in the Milwaukee historic annals or Google for our children and the little boys and girls they will interact with.

Alderman Rainey, you need to put your leadership, stewardship, citizenship, and AUTHENTICITY of your position as an African American Alderperson in ensuring that the AMANI banner is back up in your district.  As you know, I have brought it before you and Alderman Russell Stamper before.  Take care of your back and front yards for patriotism and belonging. This is NOT the way for you to get or maintain respect in/out of the district you represent.

Alderman Donovan, as a Caucasian - sometimes you seem divisive when it comes to racial matters in Milwaukee, you can do more to show that you are "Inclusive" and representing those of Color in District 8 by NOT fanning the fire with racism and bias that this "so-called" People's Flag present.

The People are NOT represented here because their "fingerprint" and DNA ARE not represented.

Why aren't the three of you working on the long-awaited OAAA/Office of African American Alliance that has fallen in the local latrine?  I think the OAAA was your idea, Alderman Khalif Rainey.

Aldermen Rainey, Johnson, and Donovan, your role for creating a more PEACEFUL, INCLUSIVE, INSPIRATIONAL, HOPEFUL and SAFE city is a 100% Inclusion in how the city charter officers present themselves in resolutions and/or laws.  You have sent so many bad messages.  Get OFF OF IT.  Enough already.
