MPA LLC brings USDA STRIKEFORCE and PROMISE ZONE concept-support to URBAN Milwaukee Census Tracts

We want dialog with FARMERS in and around Milwaukee County, Southeastern Wisconsin and members around GOOD Greens network to BUILD the present and the NEXT GENERATION in Agriculture - Horticulture (the branch of agriculture that deals with the art, science, technology, and business of growing plants)

October 24, 2016
MILWAUKEE | Milwaukee Professionals Association LLC continues to link campaigns and programs to All Hands on Deck, WE CAN.

"While I was browsing the web for information relative to URBAN innovative infra-structuring for FOOD SYSTEM growth at the census tract in the city of Milwaukee, I read and liked comments of Secretary of Agriculture  Tom Vilsak and felt immediately that co-ops and partnering support is a solid win concept.  I also noticed that Wisconsin was not on the rural list already", said Mary Glass, MPA LLC.

"HUD/Housing and Urban Development has been a solid trending of federal funding and resources.  However, the stakeholders have had the lion's share  of the funds used for pet projects of the mayor and common council.  To the point that the Neighborhood Strategic Planning has been "frozen into exile".  It will be one of the first Strike Force change for a real Promise Zone in Milwaukee. Therefore, the federal office of HUD must be a partner-catalyst for the self-sustaining partnerships from the census tract level".

MPO-Metropolitan Planning Organization
We seek the office of Ken Yunker, Executive Director SEWRPC/Southeastern WI Regional Planning Commission and Wisconsin Department of Transportation to work more closely with the neighborhoods of Milwaukee for the footprint of the stakeholders for the Innovation desired in the largest urban city of Wisconsin.

Education
Training the People, the stakeholders, is uppermost in the stewardship of MPA LLC to guaratee success of Infra-structuring for today's Food System growth.

MPA LLC through the Milwaukee Smart Grocer Network will support the purveyors/peddlers/foragers, any one that promotes the self sustaining of the food system and work to cultivate its success.
In 2014, the White House launched the Promise Zone Initiative to help hardworking communities succeed. Applicants provide concrete plans outlining how they will spur economic growth, improve educational opportunity, leverage private investment, create jobs and reduce crime in their communities. The Promise Zone designation creates a partnership in which Federal and local leaders work together to meet the specific needs of a community. Promise Zone communities receive a federal liaison assigned to help designees navigate federal programs, preferential consideration for certain competitive federal grant programs, and technical assistance from participating federal agencies. The Promise Zone designation is designed for a term of 10 years but may be extended as necessary.

Let's get EXCITED about the quality of life and economic development opportunities before us.

We are asking our brothers and sisters in other areas  - through GoodGreens USDA Network (counties and states) - to share ideas and models that are working and used as direct incentives for participation, improve benefit redemption center, support strategies for to improve SNAP participants and ways to connect under-served stakeholders in Milwaukee with appropriate food groups.

IN THE NEWS TODAY

U.S. stock futures were pointing to a higher open on Wall Street, following the first positive week in three and renewed M&A activity led by AT&T's (T) mega-deal to buy Time Warner (TWX). (CNBC)

Long-depressed commodity prices are set to finally head higher due to expected infrastructure spending in emerging and more developed markets, and said Marc Faber, known as Dr. Doom for his usually pessimistic views. (CNBC)
When the next administration in Washington takes up the $85.4 billion deal between and Time Warner, the companies will probably face a much sterner test from regulators than Comcast's (CMCSA) purchase of NBCUniversal, which also owns CNBC. (NY Times)

In a speech over the weekend, Donald Trump said he opposed the proposed AT&T-Time Warner merger, vowing his administration would not approve the deal, because it would put "too much concentration of power in the hands of too few." (CNBC)

LinkedIn's (LNKD) deal to be bought by Microsoft (MSFT) for $26 billion is getting more intense review from European Union regulators. Officials have sent questionnaires to competitors about the possible deal. (WSJ)

TD Ameritrade (AMTD) this morning said it would buy privately held Scottrade Financial Services in a cash-and-stock deal valued at $4 billion. (Reuters)

B/E Aerospace (BEAV) will be bought by aircraft component maker Rockwell Collins (COL) for $62 per share in cash and stock. The value of the deal to buy the maker of aircraft interiors is worth $6.4 billion, not including assumption of debt. (Reuters)

Facebook will begin allowing more explicit posts if they are "newsworthy, significant, or important to the public interest," the social network said, following a series of controversies over deleted content. (Recode)

Trump campaign manager Kellyanne Conway told "Meet the Press"Sunday: " We are behind," but added the Trump campaign was looking to sway undecided voters not ready to support Clinton. (NBC News)

For the first time in decades, the wealthy are set to deliver a landslide victory for a Democratic presidential candidate, favoring Hillary Clintontwo-to-one over Trump. (CNBC)

BY THE NUMBERS

Uncertainty about the election has not stopped most businesses from rolling out expansion plans and hiring new workers. But about a third of them are having trouble filling open positions, according the latest NABE survey.

While there are no government economic reports due today, investors hope for clues on the economy from three Fed officials. St. Louis Fed President James Bullard, Chicago Fed President Charles Evans, and Fed Gov. Jerome Powell all speak the trading day.

Roughly one third of the S&P 500 report their numbers this week. It's worth noting AT&T (T) had been set to report quarterly results this morning. But it issued them over the weekend with the Time Warner merger news.

Amazon (AMZN) saw its price target raised to $1,050 from $920 at Goldman Sachs, which maintains a "conviction buy" rating on the stock. Goldman cites both outperformance in Amazon's retailing operation as well as growth in the Amazon Web Services business.

COMING - WEDNESDAY TALK w/DAVID LATONA, Milwaukee Economic Development Corporation

David Latona - President
Milwaukee Economic Development Corporation
    CENTER STREET LIBRARY
2727 W. Center Street
Wednesday, October 26, 2016
1:00pm - 3:00pm

The Milwaukee Economic Development Corporation's mission is to aid businesses in the creation and retention of jobs. The Corporation uses its loan capital to provide business loans and assist in the financing of projects that achieve that objective.

For over forty years, MEDC has worked in partnership with area banks in order to provide low interest loans to Milwaukee businesses. Because of our commitment to continuous improvement, our loan fund has been able to grow to over $60 million, allowing us to annually increase the number of businesses we serve.

Our approach to lending has always revolved around two fundamental principles: Sharing risk with all participants in a project, and lending in partnership with private sector financial institutions.

We assess risk similarly to conventional lenders, but we lend out funds at a higher risk level to increase the feasibility of a project. With all of our loan programs, we support and assist minority- and woman-owned businesses.

We also work with the City of Milwaukee and the Redevelopment Authority of the City of Milwaukee (RACM) in the development and environmental remediation of commercial and industrial properties.

The Corporation's activities are supervised by a Board of Directors consisting of Milwaukee area business men and women, as well as lenders, with our day-to-day governance delegated to the Board's Executive Committee. All loans are reviewed and approved by our Loan and Finance Committee, with land investments being reviewed and approved by the Land Resource Committee.

Milwaukee Smart Grocery Network
Milwaukee Smart Grocery Network looks at the importance of today's grocers investment in fresh foods from local farms and gardens for communication, education attainment, information technology and employment of the consumer for healthier neighborhoods in urban and rural locations.

Concerns
The strategic planning and fingerprinting of the People is uppermost in the success of successful food markets, elimination of Food Deserts, chronic illnesses related to diet, preparation and inclusion of healthy food groups in all meals, entrepreneurial and gainful employment, training for all, as well as processing and distribution from land-to-fork and manufacturing-to-entree planning of meals in the public square.

Milwaukee has a large population of men, women and children, over a half million folk.

Food System is a growth industry.

Enduring concentrated poverty and impact on health wellness are two main reasons for positive change.

MSGN collaborations include the USDA Public Affairs Midwest office, America Heart Association, Milwaukee Public School - Clarke Street School and Milwaukee Area Technical College - Horticulture Mequon, Citizen Action of WI, Dawn to Dusk Forever Garden Group, Amazing Architecture, and Love Foundation Inc.

Luz Sosa - Latino Outreach Organizer

Citizen Action of Wisconsin
M.S.A.E. Marquette University, B.A. Marquette University

Luz was born in Asuncion, the capital and largest city of Paraguay, in South America.

She moved to the United States with her family when she was 16 years old. Even though she did not know how to speak English, through hard work, she successfully finished her last two years of high school at Whitefish Bay High School.

In 2007, she graduated from Marquette University with double majors in Economics and Political Science, and earning two Master’s degrees. After graduation, Luz worked for NAMWOLF, a non-profit organization that helps minority and women’s law firms thrive and succeed.

Luz also worked for Northwestern Mutual as a financial representative, and then as a general manager at Helios, a manufacturing company of solar panels. Although her private sector jobs were good experiences, she longed for an opportunity to positively influence students and, with that in mind, became an Economics instructor at the Milwaukee Technical College (MATC) where she still teaches to this day.

A year ago, she started working for Citizen Action of Wisconsin where she is in charge of helping the Latino communities on issues regarding Health Care, Economic Equality, and Voting Rights. Luz is also very active in the community, giving her time and support wherever she can.

She is a member and treasurer of the American Federation of Teachers, Local 212 (the union of MATC). She is also the executive vice-president the state union, AFT-Wisconsin and a board member of the Wisconsin Labor History Society.

And, on top of all that she is the vice-president of Raise Wisconsin, an organization that champions the fight to raise the minimum wage for the working class.

Last but not least, she is the proud mother of Maddox, who is now 4 years old.

MPA LLC looks at the women and men that are District Administrators for the City of Milwaukee

City of Milwaukee Common Council
The Milwaukee Common Council exercises all policy-making and legislative powers of the city, including the adoption of ordinances and resolutions, the approval of the city's annual budget, and the enactment of appropriation and tax levy ordinances. The council also has approval over the mayor's appointments of cabinet heads to direct day-to-day operations of city departments. In addition to their powers as legislators, council members serve as district administrators, responsible to the citizens in their districts for city services.
Milwaukee residents are encouraged to communicate with their elected officials in a variety of ways. The public is allowed to participate in the discussion of matters on the agenda at committee meetings of the council. Council members frequently host public Town Hall meetings in their districts and prepare and mail informative newsletters to constituents.
The president of the Common Council is elected by the council members at the beginning of the council's term and serves for four years. The president makes all appointments to the council's seven standing committees and many special committees, and presides over all meetings of the full council. He or she becomes acting mayor when the mayor is out of the city.
The seven standing committees of the Common Council are Community and Economic DevelopmentFinance & PersonnelJudiciary & LegislationLicensesPublic SafetyPublic Works, and Zoning, Neighborhoods & Development. In addition, there is a Steering & Rules Committee comprised of the Common Council President, who is the chair, and the standing committee chairs. REMEMBERING MR. DON LEWIS - Young Jazz Cafe - Amani Neighborhood Leader

Hear. Here. Our neighbor businessman DON LEWIS, owner of Young Jazz Cafe is no longer with us.

Site Torched - About a year ago
We remember "Don Lewis", the man, the owner, the family man, and Musician.
We send our special cheer to the family during their deep hour of sadness.
Don,
We know not why this tragedy.
We sit stunned with a twinge of anger.
You were stopped short of your goal.

Know that we are thinking and praying for you and your family.
I remember my last visit for lunch and shooting the breeze.
Had not talked for a while - the sandwich and soda water was right to the spot. Very good.
Play your trumpet my friend and God's blessings.
