Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele |
"We need to rethink everything about how the County works. County leadership needs to be focused on one thing and one thing alone: the sustainable and efficient delivery of the best quality of service possible.
We can no longer afford to be distracted by petty politics. People of all political stripes have great ideas. The best democracy for Milwaukee County is not about trying to find a win, it’s finding a win for the voters and taxpayers of the County.
Municipalities can no longer view each other as competitors. Every City taxpayer is also a County taxpayer, and a state taxpayer. The people of Milwaukee County are best served when the County Executive, the Mayor of Milwaukee, and the Governor of Wisconsin work shoulder to shoulder as allies, not as enemies.
We can no longer be attached to the status quo. Rather than fearing change, we should fear what is happening to our County when we fail to address the problems that have plagued our community for far too long. Instead of wringing our hands about a system that clearly isn’t working, we should be enthusiastically working together towards a system that will.
This is the leadership we need and this is the leadership I’ll bring. I’ll work with anyone to get the job done. I won’t see potential enemies and turn away, I’ll see potential allies and engage.
