NOT TRUE - MISLEADING -- Conflating irresponsibly at a time of MISERY

AUGUST 8, 2018
CITY-WIDE MILWAUKEE || The city of Milwaukee is "mourning the death of Officer Michael Michalski".

Stolen Money
Unfortunately, at a local establishment, Sobelmans, money was stolen on Saturday, August 4, 2018.  Sobelmans hosted a fundraiser for the bereaved family and acquired $1,300.  One thousand and five hundred dollars ($1,500) was taken.  The money taken belonged to Sobelmans.

It was NOT the fundraising for Officer Michalski's family.

The fact it was stolen was quite enough.
The fact it was stolen from the establishment hosting a fundraiser for the Michalski Family was quite enough.

The fact it was "money/PROFITS from Sobelmans' other locations" was equally enough.

Not True/Conflating
However, it is also MOST UNFORTUNATE that Alderman Bob Donovan, District 8, the city of Milwaukee, released a Press Release and Fox 6 a video CONFLATING/MISREPRESENTING the FACTS.

Fox 6 errored with a Misleading tag for its News video -

Police release video of ‘rotten individual’ who stole money during fundraiser for fallen officer.

Yes.  "Money" was stolen.
The money belonged to Sobelmans, NOT the fundraiser for Officer Michalski family.  There were two (2) separate amounts and according to Sobelmans, the money stolen was money belonging to Sobelman.

Press Release
Donovan said, "On Saturday (August 4) during a busy event to help raise money for the family of Milwaukee Police Officer Michael Michalski – killed in the line of duty on July 25th – a man walked through a side door at Sobelman’s at 1900 W. St. Paul Ave. and broke into an office area. Once inside the man stole money raised for the fallen officer’s family."

HOWEVER,

"Sobelman said $1,500 in money and gift cards was taken. He noted that it was *not* the money gathered for the Michalski family, but rather, profits from their other locations.Fox 6 - Click

PRESS RELEASE

Public’s help needed to catch brazen thief

Statement from Alderman Bob Donovan - August 7, 2018
By  - Aug 7th, 2018 10:14 am
On Saturday (August 4) during a busy event to help raise money for the family of Milwaukee Police Officer Michael Michalski – killed in the line of duty on July 25th – a man walked through a side door at Sobelman’s at 1900 W. St. Paul Ave. and broke into an office area. Once inside the man stole money raised for the fallen officer’s family.
I cannot tell you how badly I want to catch this individual and bring justice to the Michalski family, but also to Dave Sobelman who for years has stepped up to help raise money for many worthwhile causes across Milwaukee and the region. A business dedicated to helping the community deserves our help at this time and I am urging the public to check out the MPD link below to see if the thief can be recognized.
Please call 414-935-7360 if you or someone you know has any information related to this crime. Please go to http://www.milwaukeepolicenews.com/?p=14855 for more information.  Urban Milwaukee
Robbery, Misrepresentation and African American Male
The robbery speaks to our right NOW troubling times, mired poverty of the citizenry, a high infestation of drug addiction, disorders mentally, and lack of "empathy" due to the same issues.
It does us all a disservice and further disengagement when facts are misrepresented.
Due to historic bias and other issues around race, It becomes "toxic" big time when an African American male is involved.  This incident suggests two African American males.
The man that allegedly killed Officer Michalski is African American.
The man reported in the video is also said to be African American.
Divisive
To have an elected official, member of the city of Milwaukee Common Council and Fox 6 News television grossly misrepresent the facts at such a time requires a "CORRECTION" by Alderman Robert Donovan, 8th District and Fox 6 - post haste.
