GMC SAYS, “JUMP!”
LEGISLATURE, COUNTY EXECUTIVE ASK, “HOW HIGH?”

Milwaukee, WI – Milwaukee County Supervisor Eyon Biddle, Sr., released the following statement regarding proposed legislation currently moving through the legislature that would create a comptroller position for Milwaukee County:

“Once again, the will of the people of Milwaukee County is being ignored. In 2008, Milwaukee County residents approved an advisory referendum in favor of a one-cent sales tax to fund transit, parks, culture, emergency medical services and property tax relief.

“It’s sad that the legislature, time and time again, diminishes the voices emanating from the economic engine of Wisconsin. Milwaukee County has real needs that are being ignored. People want to improve their quality of life. But, since the Greater Milwaukee Committee (GMC) is the puppet master of the side show taking place in our state capital, State Legislators are doing what the GMC wants, rather than carrying out the wishes of constituents.

“Let me be clear: The GMC doesn’t represent the will of the people. This group’s agenda is to abolish County government, control assets that belong to the public, and continue to disregard what the people want. Residents in my district speak loudly yet are constantly ignored.

“I’m calling on Legislators from both sides of the aisle to reject this legislation and stand up for the people they represent, rather than the Greater Milwaukee Committee. People are fed up with special interests; they’re fed up with government waste; and they don’t want a new political office in Milwaukee County. It’s beyond me why the Legislature would even consider this bill, which does nothing to improve the lives of Milwaukee County residents.”

HAPPY CONCEALED CARRY DAY TO GUN LOBBYISTS AND THE LEGISLATURE
Milwaukee, WI – Milwaukee County Supervisor Eyon Biddle, Sr., released the following statement this afternoon:

“Happy Concealed Carry Day to everyone here in the great state of Texas….I mean Wisconsin! As a gift to everyone, the State Legislature, Wisconsin Carry, Inc., and other powerful gun lobbies, have decided to grace us with Assembly Bill 69, also known as the Castle Doctrine Bill. The gun lobby in this state is providing immunity to irrational, paranoid, and sometimes delusional property owners who shoot someone they perceive as a threat.

“The Governor and Legislature feel good about putting the public’s safety at risk because of the powerful financial interests of the gun lobby. I would like to congratulate them for that. They have ignored democracy, jobs, access to quality affordable health care, voting rights, felons rights, human rights, and the ability to collectively bargain…all for gun rights! Milwaukee’s Chief of Police, District Attorney, and other law enforcement have all expressed concerns about this law decreasing public safety, but the Legislature is ignoring them and obeying the gun lobby instead. Excellent!

“So what’s the ultimate goal of Wisconsin Carry, Inc., the National Rifle Association (NRA) and other state gun lobbyists, you might ask? Plain and simple: they want to see Wisconsin’s legislation expanded to include “stand your ground” provisions. This will provide protections to individuals who shoot people anytime, anyplace, anywhere because of what they perceive to be a threat.

“The only question now becomes how many people might be shot dead before the Legislature will care about the safety of the citizens of Wisconsin and stand up to the NRA, Wisconsin Carry and other powerful gun lobbies. Stay tuned.”
