-- Major companies of note reporting earnings this week include Marriott, Google, JPMorgan Chase and Citigroup.
-- Watch for the Fed's release of its last meeting notes, which could include hints to the central bank’s plans for the second half.
-- Retail sales have taken a hit, mainly due to rising energy costs. June’s retail sales report is due out on Thursday.
-- Additional economic releases of note this week include the trade balance, import/export prices and weekly jobless claims, which will again be closely watched in light of last Friday's surprisingly weak jobs report.
