My Plate - National Nutrition Month -

MyPyramid, released by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) on April 19, 2005, was an update on the earlier American food guide pyramid. It was used until June 2, 2011, when the USDA's MyPlate replaced it.  The icon stresses activity and moderation along with a proper mix of food groups in one's diet. As part of the MyPyramidfood guidance system, consumers were asked to visit the MyPyramid website for personalized nutrition information. Significant changes from the previous food pyramid include:

  • Inclusion of a new symbol—a person on the stairs—representing physical activity.
  • Measuring quantities in cups and ounces instead of servings.
MyPyramid was designed to educate consumers about a lifestyle consistent with the January 2005 Dietary Guidelines for Americans, an 80-page document. The guidelines, produced jointly by the USDA and Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), represented the official position of the U.S. government and served as the foundation of Federal nutrition policy.   Wikipedia

MARDI GRAS - Fat Tuesday African American Indian and Members of the Zulu Club

Enlarge - click photo
According to author Willie W. Clark Jr., “in 1746 archives begin to refer to slaves dressing as Indians, as the African-Americans began to celebrate Mardi Gras in their unique customary fashion. These were in all likelihood, the first known “Black Indians.” So it begins.

Quite frankly, no other group in the entire world takes their costumes as seriously as the Mardi Gras Indians. The estimated cost of a suit if we look at materials, time and labor, can run anything from a low $18,000 to upwards of $60,000. People spend all year working on a new suit, and every spare pair of hands is put to work. It is truly a labor of divine love. The suits can weigh over a 100 pounds, and as someone who has had the honor of trying one on, I can truly say this is some “heavy” and powerful magic.

The joint district meetings of Milwaukee Professionals Association LLC gives the residential and commercial stakeholders a special and needed opportunity to address ECP/Enduring Concentrated Poverty that has a strangle-hold on economic viability that organically generate Upscalability in gross domestic product development at the census tract and neighborhood level.  Reform for removal of the ECP cancer in Center City Milwaukee is "by-design".  It requires "due diligence" by each one of the voters, their families, their business and residential associates to be of like-accord.  To make an assessment of options and opportunities and then to set-forth an aggressive and solidarity agenda of successful engagement.
Strategic Points of Engagement
  • ANNUAL LOCAL, STATE & FEDERAL FUNDS.
  • CDFI and FINANCIAL INSTITUTIONS.
  • CITIZEN INPUT - Law Enforcement Spring Petition.
  • DISPARITY REPORT - DWilson.
  • EB-5

And the Oscar Winners are . . . 12 Years a Slave - Solomon Northup

Enlarge - click photo
HOLLYWOOD - OSCARS |  March 2, 2014, the 86 Academy Awards was saluted with historic value of outstanding talent and win by a Brit Black man, a Black African male Nigerian actor, a Black African female Kenyan actor and an African American male writer born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and raised in Mequon.  They captured:

  • BEST PICTURE - Steve Rodney McQueen, Director
  • BEST SUPPORTING ROLE FEMALE - Lupita Almondi Nyong'o, Actor
  • BEST ADAPTED SCREENPLAY  - John Ridley, Screenplay Writer
It was a first of many to come - soon and very soon.
Steve McQueen and Bianca Stigter
We salute and thank the freeborn African American author, Solomon Northrup (1808-1863) for writing "12 years a Slave".

We salute and thank Bianca Stigter, Steve McQueen's partner for finding and sharing the book with Steve.

We  salute and thank Steve McQueen for pursuing the characters, funders, cast and wherewithal to make the film and share with the world Solomon's story.

We salute and thank each of the actors and contributors to 12 Years a Slaves; i.e., actors Brad Pitt, Michael Fassbender, Benedict Cumberbatch, Paul Dano, Sarah Paulson, Alfre Woodward, Michael K. Williams, Paul Giamatti, Adepero oduye, Qwvenzhanie Wallis, Garret Dillahunt, Taran Killan, Scoot McNairy, Dwight Henry, Anwan Glover, Chris Chalk, Bryan Batt, Jay Huguley, John McConnell, Marc Macaulay, Marcus Lyle Brown, Thomas Francis Murphy and so many more.

The cruel and brutal chaining and beatings reality of how the Black man and his family were thrust into being service renderers without their permission, stolen and purchased at-will as products-of-sale for the Caucasians' selfish will.  It also speaks of the separation of families with no regard for the parents or family members.  There was also the wanton lust of the Caucasian man for African American females which was at-will with NO option of refusal from the female or any legal repercussions.  This history known by many and spoken too softy is how resilient African Americans have remained without retaliation in spite of the barbaric and horrific conditions their fore-parents and they find happening today in the public square.

"We must all work very hard to rid our society of this unacceptable "privilege-thinking" and actions of enslavement.  Milwaukee Professionals Association LLC has added a doctrine it will advocate for.  It is called, RESPECT-4-RESPECT.   We also have a REPEAL STAND YOUR GROUND PETITION for signers.  JOIN US," said Mary Glass, Chair/CEO, Milwaukee Professionals Association LLC.

At the time of Lupita's birth, he was a visiting lecturer in political science at El Colegio de Mexico in Mexico City, and her family had been living in Mexico for three years.
In 2013, her father was elected to represent Kisumu County in the Kenyan Senate.   Nyong'o's mother is currently the managing director of the Africa Cancer Foundation and her own communications company.  Her cousin Tavia Nyong'o is a scholar and professor at New York University. Nyong'o attended college in the United States. After graduating from Hampshire College with a degree in film and theatre studies, she worked on the production crew of many films, including Fernando Meirelles'sThe Constant Gardener, with Ralph FiennesMira Nair's The Namesake, and Salvatore Stabile's Where God Left His Shoes.  She cites Fiennes as another individual who inspired her to pursue a professional acting career.  Nyong'o landed her breakout role when she was cast in 12 Years a Slave immediately before graduating from Yale with an MFA in 2012.  The film was released in 2013 to great critical acclaim. Nyong'o received rave reviews for her performance, and has been nominated for several awards including a Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress and two Screen Actors Guild Awards including Best Supporting Actress, which she won.  She co-starred in Liam Neeson's 2014 film Non-Stop.

  • Ujima/Collective Work and Responsibility - To build and maintain our community together and make our brother's and sister's problems our problems and to solve them together; and,
  • Ujamaa/Cooperative Economics - To build and maintain our own stores, shops and other businesses and to profit from them together.

City Center is the trendy name MPA LLC has chosen to identify the urban city of Milwaukee. The 10-Neighborhoods are the hot zones for MPA LLC 2014 model for urban health care at the census tract and neighborhood level.

City Center 10-Neighborhoods is the tag for MPA LLC 10-Neighborhood DEMO.  The 10 neighborhoods (Amani, Grandview/Walnut, Halyard Park, Harambee, Hillside, Metcalfe, Midtown, Riverwest, Sherman Park and WAICO/Y) have a population in excess of 66,000.   The areas are not complete with each neighborhood.  It is an extrapolation based on the boundaries of:

DIAMOND IN THE ROUGH VETTED BUSINESSES

DIAMOND In the Rough vetted businesses are those census tract and neighborhood businesses that have been "vetted" by the People with the "test-of-time" endorsement customer support.

Today's focus for MPA LLC is ease-of-access to laws and programs available to them.
It is exposure to and access of information technology, co-location networking and the economic marketplace for scale.   Recent programs like Our Brother's Keeper, voc ed training and employment, transportation engagement at the census tract and neighborhood level with Milwaukeeans and technology investment.

DIAMOND in the Rough vetted businesses are a No. 1 employer of stakeholders of the neighborhood.  They lack capital investment, connectivity to marketplace tools on an ongoing basis, linked and supported by the city government coffers, national funders with engagement for census tract and neighborhood level, and CDFI annual funds geared to empower economic and quality of life growth in the city of Milwaukee.

They also lack RESPECT of ENGAGEMENT by those elected-appointed-hired-volunteered-donor-for-hire represented.  Therefore, DISTRUST is rapport.
