THEY ARE REALLY HIDING TOM

Luxembourg is a small European country, surrounded by Belgium, France, and Germany. It’s mostly rural, with dense Ardennes forest and nature parks in the north, rocky gorges of the Mullerthal region in the east, and the Moselle river valley in the southeast. Its capital, Luxembourg City, is famed for its fortified medieval old town perched on sheer cliffs.

Unemployment in Luxembourg is the lowest in all of Europe and has been for 40 yearsTom will be at a loss since he has helped impose Enduring Concentrated Poverty in Milwaukee.  He once told an official luncheon for the Federal Reserve, he did not know why Milwaukee had ECP.

As the richest country in the world by GDP per capita — around $105,000 each, you might expect Luxembourg to be a wildly expensive place, but it really isn't. Sure, it's not cheap, but as a tourist, it's no worse than places like New York, London or Paris. May 10, 2018

The African American population in Luxembourg is 10,013 people.

BELOW are comments by selected individuals in the public square of the Milwaukee area shared by Mary Spicuzza - Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

Bob Bauman, Alderman 4th District and partner with Tom Barrett in many of Barrett's high-powered, discriminatory, monopoly-oligopoly, and controversial projects, i.e., The Hop, speaks more to the point of reality of Barrett's surprise - while all others gave the usual THIS-N-THAT compliments.

BOB BAUMAN - Alderman, Dist 4

"I think there could be a period of uncertainty, confusion, and perhaps a little chaos moving forward. Needless to say there's a lot of issues pending. There's some very challenging budgets coming down the road. There's the Rescue Fund monies, and how we deploy those funds.

"There has been a significant increase in crime and disorder in the city, and no one really seems to have a good answer to addressing that. There's increasing concerns among our citizens that downtown has seen a significant spike in criminal activity. There's a lot of concern. A lot of people talking about rethinking their decisions to move downtown."

CAVALIER JOHNSON - Alderman, Dist 2

Common Council President (Positioned -Interim Mayor)

"In nominating Tom Barrett to serve as a U.S. Ambassador, President Biden has chosen a proven leader with great experience to represent our nation’s interests and lead the U.S. embassy located in Luxembourg City.

"Tom has a long track record of success, stretching from his time as a state legislator, to his honorable service in Congress, to leading our city as one of the longest-serving mayors in America. His wealth of experience will serve our nation well as he works to deepen our relationship with one of America’s allies.

"On behalf of the Milwaukee Common Council, I congratulate the Mayor on his appointment.

"We will continue to work closely with the Mayor during this time of transition. Until he decides to step down he will remain in that position, and the business at City Hall will continue."

DAVID CROWLEY - Milwaukee County Executive

"Congratulations to Mayor Tom Barrett on his nomination to become the next U.S. Ambassador to Luxembourg. Mayor Barrett and his administration have been key partners over the last year as we navigated the COVID-19 pandemic and worked to keep residents safe.

"The Mayor is a proven leader who will bring the same level of passion and commitment to representing the United States abroad as he did for years as one of the nation’s longest-serving big-city mayors.

"On behalf of Milwaukee County, I thank Mayor Barrett for his many years of leadership and wish him the best during this time of transition."

TIM SHEEHY - President, MMAC

"We congratulate Mayor Barrett on his upcoming ambassadorial appointment, and thank him for all he’s done on behalf of Milwaukee. Mayor Barrett has been a consistent champion for economic development here, and we wish him all the best in his new role."

"We look forward to continuing our work to improve metro Milwaukee as a place to invest capital, grow business and create jobs with the respected leader of the Common Council, Cavalier Johnson, in his new role as Acting Mayor."

Jim Paetsch, Executive Director - Milwaukee 7

"We congratulate Mayor Barrett, who was a valued founding partner of the Milwaukee 7. Mayor Barrett was an early champion of regionalism, and he recognized that what was good for the region was good for Milwaukee. He put economic development among his highest priorities and on his watch, Milwaukee drew in a significant amount of investment and job creation."

"We wish Mayor Barrett all the best in his next chapter and look forward to working with Acting Mayor Johnson, who shares our commitment to economic development."

Attorney Michael Maistelman,  Democratic politics

"We expected him not to run for reelection," Maistelman said. "This will be the crowning jewel in his career to end with an ambassadorship. I think this is an amazing opportunity for Mayor Barrett."

He added, "This is the next step in his career. It could be the last step."

CORRECTION - 8-27-21
This article incorrectly identifies Luxembourg as part of England, i.e., in the "title" and "first paragraph".  Instead, Luxembourg is a city in the country of Europe.
You will also see in this article the correct reference:  Luxembourg is a small European country, surrounded by Belgium, France, and Germany.
