President Obama signs STOP Act - April 4, 2012

April 4, 2012

WASHINGTON, DC - In a ceremony at the White House, President Obama signed the Stop Trading on Congressional Knowledge (STOCK) Act into law.

The STOCK Act makes it illegal for members of Congress and their families and staff, along with members of the executive branch and federal employees, to profit from trading securities using nonpublic information.

The Senate voted in late March to send the House-passed bill to Obama for signing. It lacks several of the provisions included in the Senate-passed bill sent to the House in early February.
========================

Not present - U.S. Congresswoman Louise McIntosh Slaughter - First introduced the STOCK Act, 2006.

Congresswoman Slaughter is the United States representative for New York's 28th congressional district.

She is recovering from a "broke leg".
