REASONS Why Tom Barrett Missed the Mark June 5, 2012

MILWAUKEE(MPA) - For over 8 years, Mary Glass, Chair/CEO, Milwaukee Professionals Association, has followed the mayor of Milwaukee and have been outspoken about his lack of INCLUSION of Milwaukeeans, especially African American, other People of Color and the Work Challenged.

Often those in position of power forget that basics of TRUST and ethics in best practices in the position of an elected officials will always "be the best hand".

TRUST by his major constituents is not Tom Barrett's long suit - by his own actions.
==========================================

During the last eight years, it appears that Tom Barrett, mayor of Milwaukee, has alienated through disrespect and discrimination the real base of Milwaukeeans, the half-million people that reside in Milwaukee.

They are the ones that provide the framework of resident - taxpayers, apartment renters, condo and home owners.
The ones that both live-in and have created a business in the city of Milwaukee.
The ones that live-in, work, go to church, go to school, run a business and raise a family in Milwaukee.

That population is 3/4 People of Color, with African American being the largest group - over 40%.

The genesis of wrongdoing and preference by mayor Tom Barrett was seen right after he took office in 2004.  His Inaugural speech said one thing- bringing all together, but Barrett engaged in bait-n-switch, he chose another road - real estate barons, donor for hire, Milwaukee Metropolitan Association of Commerce, Greater Milwaukee Committee, MMAC subgroup to create and provide operations for Milwaukee 7;  Milwaukee 7 members; and, the Milwaukee Economic Development Corporation/MEDC.

His action plan began right away in the first 100 days.  Barrett engaged in divisiveness - the outsiders against the insiders/Milwaukeeans.
He has worked exclusively with and travelled abroad with Tim Sheehy, MMAC, who lives in Whitefish Bay to say what the business forecast and focus of the economy would be for the city of Milwaukee - no where to be found are the People of Color business chambers.

He used the expansion of the name of city of Milwaukee to Greater Milwaukee area to justify methods of divisiveness, arbitrary and capricous behavior.

He then began the royal and massive outsourcing of resources to non-Milwaukeeans.
He gave an unprecedented gift to Manpower (employment agency) and failed to create an agreement for such a huge investment from the city of Milwaukee coffers.
Jeffrey Joerres, board of directors and staff of Manpowr got a huge windfall.  They included:
  • a NEW international office in the iconic city of Milwaukee.
  • a NEW international office in the high rent district located in the iconic city of Milwaukee, on the Milwaukee River, downtown.
  • a NEW international office with street named after it.
  • a NEW international office with a MILLION DOLLAR special requested parking lot for staff.
  • a NEW international office with TID - tax increment district benefits.
  • a NEW international office with 600 employees brought into Milwaukee - even though Milwaukeeans were harboring a high unemployment rate well over 30%.
  • a NEW international office with a maybe promise of hiring from the city.
No wonder Joerres is so arrogant and fail to show accountability and TRUE goodwill for growing Milwaukee and its infrastructure.  Manpower certainly has tossed trinklets in view of their drain on the coffers of the taxpayers in Milwaukee.

Joerres like others we have encountered in Barrett's oligopoly structure, want answer request for information and/or will meet.

However, we find him on the Chicago Federal Reserve Board making economic decisions about the midwest cities that include Milwaukee.  This is privilege, unacceptable.  People remember.

COA/Children Outing Association vs. PAL-Police Athletic League
When Barrett took office, he sabotaged a neighborhood effort to bailout and purchase the PAL- Police Athletic League that was financially strapped; and, rewarded a crony and election supporter with a $1 dollar gift.

He refused to meet with the financier and the community representatives to discuss the solutions - Mary Glass knows because she was one of those that help put the deal together.  This is unacceptable.  People remember.

Milwaukee Public School Takeover
In 2010 Barrett and cronies ex-governor Jim Doyle and state superintendent Tony Evers tried to take over Milwaukee Public Schools.  This was a well-known chip from the Greater Milwaukee Committee, Milwaukee 7 and Milwaukee Metropolitan Association of Commerce.
The measure failed.  People remember.

Muskegon Heights mayor snubbed
Mayor Rillistine Wilkins was in Milwaukee for BI-Coastal Development Meeting hosted by the office of Mary Glass and CNI/Fondy North Business Association.  She and her business attendees were snubbed by Barrett.  He refused to meet mayor Wilkins and refused to meet with the group for dialog.

Frank Cumberbatch chose to be present.  Cumberbatch was the same person that was to be the Economic Czar but ran into bait-n-switch when Barrett changed the rules of the game that put corporate Milwaukee separate from the neighborhood businesses and People of Color businesses.
His lack of civility towards Mayor Wilkins was embarrassing as the city's leader.  People remember.

Incorrectly organized BID District 32
Barrett was informed of the incorrect formation of Business Improvement District 32 by Damon Dorsey - it was also brought to the attention of  City of Milwaukee Department of City Development Commissioner Rocky Marcoux and DCD staffer Rhonda Manual.

Barrett claimed to take action, but did nothing even though it violated the state law.  This is unacceptable.  People remember.

Pratt vs Barrett Election
Milwaukeeans, especially African Americans, were left with a bad taste in their mouths due to the way candidate Marvin Pratt and his wife were rumored to have been treated in the middle of night with a visit by the Milwaukee Police Department and the suspicious investigation by District Attorney E. Michael McCann.  This was overly suspicious.  People remember.

Failed Economy and Unemployment
Several times during the year, Milwaukee is cited for a lack of growth in its economy and increased unemployment.  Yet Barrett and the MMAC, GMC and Milwaukee 7 have been the high rollers and getters of closed planning and resources.  They have also had a significant group of donor-for-hire representatives around the table.

African American, other People of Color,  3/4 of population have been either selectively "creamed" for one-or-two participants, appointed/hired for tokenism; or, demonized.

Each year Barrett has publicized the "summer youth jobs" program as his flagship of employment for Milwaukeeans.  He has also pointed to his "Fathers Initiative", headed by Barrett's ex-staffer Terrence Ray, as the cure-all for African American males in Milwaukee.

However when it comes to Caucasian males and businessmen, he speaks of wages, business development, economy of scales, packaging, bundling financial resources, negotiation, funding and agreements.  That's unacceptable.  People remember.

Work - Paid Sick Days
Barrett and cronies - Milwaukee Metropolitan Association of Commerce, Milwaukee 7 and Greater Milwaukee Committee worked successfully to dismantle the passed referendum by 9-5 regarding Paid Sick Days.  That was not right.  People remember.

6506 Miles to China, but will not go 2.1 Miles
Mayor Tom Barrett, Chancellor Michael Lovell - University of Wisconsin, Provost Johannes Britz - University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee, ex-governor Jim Doyle and Tim Sheehy - MMAC went to Beijing, China in December 2011, to recruit Chinese students.  Lovell and Barrett will not go 2.1 miles to Martin L. King Drive to recruit African American, other People of Color and the Work Challenged for academic attainment and business development.  That is divisive and disrespectful.  People remember.

Milwaukee 7
The three co-chair format has changed over the last seven years.  Gale Klappa and mayor Barrett have remained, the third co-chair has been Michael Grebe - Bradley Foundation, Steve Smith - Journal Sentinel and Ed Zore - Northwestern Insurance Company and Mary Stanek - Baird.

The present 3 co-chairs are:

L-R, Gale Klappa-We Energies, Mary Stanek - Baird & Company and Mayor Tom Barrett.

The Milwaukee 7 have operated by proxy to make decisions that have outsourced jobs, outsourced education attainment (Department of Labor and Waukesha Technical) and economic development (business development and employment)  of the people of the city of Milwaukee, without the PERMISSION of the people.   Their agenda have been discriminatory and elitist using the iconic name and status of Milwaukee.   This is an oligopoly and monopoly format.  People remember.

Snubbed Wisconsin Black Chamber of Commerce
On May 2, 2012, the Wisconsin Black Chamber of Commerce had a Democrat gubernatorial forum.   Barrett failed to show.  Would he of not attended an event such as this of the MMAC?  This was out of order.  People remember and they TALK.

So, when the African American elected officials - U. S. Congresswoman Gwen Moore, State Senator Lena Taylor, Representatives Tamara Grigsby,  BarbaraToles, and Jason Fields; and Aldermen Ashanti Hamilton, Joe Davis and Willie Wade; and Alderman/Common Council President Willie Hines marched out with their expected endorsement - The People remembered and said, NO.
============================

During the gubernatorial campaign, it was very telling for Barrett to use terms like "civil war" and divisiveness.

He could of WON big time IF he had remembered and his 8 years exemplified the Golden Rule.

If there is NO Enemy inside, there will be NO harm come November 6, 2012

MILWAUKEE (MPA) The election on June 5, 2012 in Wisconsin has talking heads and pundits giving their reasons for governor Scott Walker retaining his position as governor of Wisconsin.

The Republicans are declaring victory and a game-change.

Some are claiming the 8-10 times funding of in- and outside groups tipped the scale.  However, I would suggest the out- and inside funding was a contributor - the message of divisiveness was a huge contributor - but, the biggest contributor was the "solidarity" vote vs the "lack of solidarity vote".

People are hurting.
People have memories.
People must TRUST you.
People must see hope for their bottomline causes.
People must feel that what they are supporting will ultimately support them.

If the enemy is not within, the world outside can do you NO harm.

Do not allow November 7, 2012 to be , "I told you so".

Think about it.

Larson Weekly Report - June 7, 2012

                                                        Senator Chris Larson - 7th District
Dear Friend,

Given that all eyes have been on   Wisconsin's June elections, this week's newsletter will focus on issues   and legislative initiatives related to elections in our state.

  Sincerely,
  Chris Larson
  State Senator, District 7
 =================

Moving Wisconsin   Forward
With   the power change in the Senate, the people of Wisconsin have put the   breaks on the extreme policies and politics that resulted from   unilateral Republican control over the past 18 months. Wisconsin now has   the opportunity to restore balance to our government by setting a new   course. This path should encourage swifter economic recovery, better   reflect our shared values, and aim to heal our divided state. I am   calling on the governor and Assembly to work with the Senate to help get   Wisconsin moving forward. Below are just a few of the priorities that   need to be addressed.

Jobs & Economy
The numbers do not lie. While the   nation has added jobs every month for 17 straight months and neighboring   states all posted job gains this past year, Wisconsin has fallen   tragically behind. A nationwide report released by the federal Bureau of   Labor Statistics shows Wisconsin lost 12,500 jobs from January 2011 to   January 2012, more than any other state over the past year. In fact, Wisconsin is one of only six states to lose jobs in the past year, and   our job losses are more than three times higher than the next state on   that unfortunate list. We need to get Wisconsin moving in the right   direction with the rest of the nation when it comes to job creation and   economic development. Below is a list of just some legislative proposals   that that could help get

Wisconsin moving on job creation:

-- Expand the Workforce Advancement    Training Program and create grants to assist local businesses with    expanding and diversifying (SB 316/AB 431)

-- Direct the Wisconsin Economic    Development Corporation to develop, implement, and fund a program to    link businesses that need more qualified workers with Wisconsin's    technical colleges so they can provide the necessary training for    those businesses to grow (AB 575)

-- Give the Wisconsin Economic    Development Corporation the authority to award grants to    Wisconsinites trying to qualify for income and franchise tax credits    to improve or expand their business (AB 90)

-- Increase the amount of tax credits    available for dairies to continue modernizing facilities and employ    workers for these projects (SB 120/AB 186)

-- Use unexpected surplus    transportation funds to restore cuts to our mass transit systems    ensuring neighbors can continue commuting to their jobs each day (SB    436/AB 577)

Education
The choices we make regarding   education in Wisconsin will play a significant role not only in the success of our children, but also in determining the economic success of   our state and local businesses. In his budget, Governor Walker chose to   cut education by $1.6 billion. The negative impact of these cuts can   already be seen in communities across Wisconsin through decreased educational opportunities, teacher layoffs, increased class sizes, and   school closures. Additionally, most schools expect to see a second round   of severe budget cuts for the next school year.

This attack on education does not   represent Wisconsin's values and runs counter to our aim of increasing   job creation and economic vitality. It is time that we work together on   initiatives that invest in all levels of education and ensure   that those education dollars are being spent wisely. Below is a list of   just some of the legislative initiatives that that could help get   Wisconsin's K-12 and higher education systems back on track:

-- Implement Superintendent Evers' "Fair Funding for our Future" plan

-- Implement the School Accountability Task Force's recommendations by introducing    legislation aimed at creating a unique accountability plan that    would be required of all schools that receive taxpayer money

-- Hold voucher schools to the same educational standards as public schools, such as providing quality    services for children with disabilities and requiring licensure of    teachers

-- Develop grants for technical colleges to provide additional training in advanced manufacturing    skills (SB 40/AB 97)

-- Reinstate legislation to ensure Wisconsin's youth receive comprehensive sex education that includes    information about both abstinence and contraception, which 87% of    voters support and helps reduce unplanned pregnancy and transmission    of STDs

Wisconsin Democratic Party and Wisconsin Republican Party Still do not get it

                           Wisconsin Republican Party and Wisconsin Democratic Party

=====================================================
A genuine leader is not a searcher for consensus but a molder of consensus.
Martin Luther King, Jr.

MILWAUKEE(MPA) - The historic RECALL election gave the gubernatorial candidates of the Democratic and Republican Party an opportunity to REACH OUT to ALL Wisconsinites, especially high Urban populations that are Independent - African American, other People of Color and the Work Challenged (un-, under-employed; un-, under-degreed and certificated; un-, under-financed neighborhood-level business; disabled; and re-entry - especially those returning from WAR, INCARCERATION, BOOMERANG EMPLOYMENT, BOOMERANG RETIREMENT and DEGREED students without employment) in a solidarity and game-changing way.

They are a huge BLOCK of Independent voters that have just HAD IT with greed, discrimination, demonizing, disrespect, gamed for federal funds, and being treated as if they are INVISIBLE - taken for granted.

Did you notice that People of Color were not seen in critical mass at the Wisconsin Capitol?
They do not have the middle class paying jobs.
They know in Milwaukee that the jobs were/are outsourced to other nearby counties of the state and out-of-the-state to Caucasians.  It is documented time and time again.  Yet, they are tagged with stereotypical comments and many families, hidden talent flounder.

The Recall was a time to call ALL to the table in a competitive manner, not you and me divisive manner.  Because we are all just a paycheck or two-three from the open-ended door of Poverty; it was a time for coalition-building for the infrastructure building of the state.

It was a time for those excited about their livelihood, quality of life and economic development to see how so many people of our state have had to deal with "by-design" inefficiencies that were bait-n-switch politics that have crippled dreams, ideas, and for many generations their aspirations.

Since both Walker and Barrett, final candidates, have/had tenure in the City of Milwaukee - gain a serious following during their last 8 years - since both candidates bear positions of leadership and an Oath of Office to the state and U.S. Constitution that call for Inclusion; they missed a huge opportunity of "molding concensus" in synergy.
======================

Therefore, the State of Wisconsin lost, even though the Republicans and supporters of Governor Scott Walker survived the Recall.

Even though the Democrats regain the majority of the legislature.

There is a lasting taste left in many mouths that complicates our Economic Outlook that splits more than two ways.  Wisconsinites liquidity lie in the confidence of ALL-the-people that they have BUY-IN as stake-stockholders - Democracy, not oligopoly or monopoly.
===================

L-R:  Mike Tate and Brad Courtney

Republican State Party Chairman Brad Courtney and Democratic State Party Chairman Mike Tate need to roll up their sleeve and become consensus builders for Wisconsinites - ALL Wisconsinites.  Brad Courtney is from the Milwaukee area - business in Milwaukee and resides in Whitefish Bay.  Mike Tate is in the Dane county urban area.
Mike Tate has an opportunity the next two days at the Democratic convention to REWIND.
====================

If Wisconsinites are to be affluent players in the national and global supermarket, the privileged ME, must become, All Hands on Deck, WE, Not Me wiseness.

Schacknow - TODAY'S PRIMER, June 6 and 7, 2012

                                  Peter Schacknow, Senior Producer, CNBC Breaking News Desk
There are plenty of positives for U.S. investors to latch onto ahead of the Thursday session:  the Dow and the S&P 500 are coming off their best one-day gains of 2012, and the Dow now has its first two-day win streak since April 26-27.

It should also be pointed out, however, that Wednesday’s outsized gains were just roughly enough to negate last Friday’s losses.

A successful debt auction in Spain may help market sentiment this morning, with strong demand at a widely watched sale of medium and long term bonds. Spain was able to sell 2.1 billion euros in bonds, with lower yields than at recent sales.

Wall Street will be hanging on Fed chairman Ben Bernanke’s every word this morning as he testifies before the Joint Economic Committee on the economic outlook at 10am ET. Investors will be looking for any hint of further easing moves by the Fed in the wake of last week’s disappointing May employment data.

Ahead of Bernanke’s testimony, we’ll get fresh labor market data, with the weekly report on initial jobless claims out at 8:30am ET. Economists are looking for 380,000 new claims for the week ending June 2, down from the prior week’s 383,000.

At 10:30am, the Energy Department will issue its weekly look at natural gas inventories, and at 3pm ET, April consumer credit figures are expected to show an increase of $10.2 billion, compared to March’s $21.4 billion rise.

June 6, 2012 - TODAYS PRIMER
Peter Schacknow, Senior Producer, CNBC Breaking News Desk

Wall Street is showing some signs of life, even as European debt crisis concerns deepen. The Nasdaq is coming off its first two-day winning streak since May 1-2, and the Dow has a chance today to rise for two consecutive days for the first time since April 26-27.

U.S. stock index futures are sharply higher at this hour, indicating at least a chance of achieving that modest goal.

Investors will be watching today’s European Central Bank meeting carefully for any signal about rate moves or other policy changes to deal with Europe’s ongoing fiscal problems.  The ECB is expected, however, to keep its benchmark rate unchanged at 1.0 percent when it issues its latest rate decision at 7:45am ET.

Here in the U.S., the Labor Department will issue its second estimate of first quarter productivity at 8:30am ET. Economists think the latest reading will show productivity falling by a 0.8 percent annual rate compared to the prior estimate of a 0.5 percent slide.

At 2pm ET, the Federal Reserve will be out with its Beige Book, the region-by-region assessment of nation’s economy.

We’ll also get two weekly reports today: the Mortgage Bankers Association is out with its look at mortgage applications at 7am ET, while the Energy Department has its assessment of oil and gasoline inventories at 10:30am ET.

The earnings calendar remains light this morning, though we will see the latest numbers from spirits maker Brown-Forman (BFB) and home builder Hovnanian (HOV), while Pall Corp.(PLL) is among those scheduled to release earnings after today’s closing bell.

Newspaper publisher Lee Enterprises (LEE) is a stock to watch this morning, following news that Berkshire Hathaway (BRKA) has taken a 3.2 percent stake. That continues a series of investments by Warren Buffett’s company in U.S. newspaper publishers.

Deere (DE) finds itself in near-record territory in one category: Reuters reports that its new debt offering carries one of the lowest yields of all time, with a 30-year bond on track to yield 3.942 percent and a 10-year note set to yield 2.629 percent. The offer has not yet officially priced.

Lockheed Martin (LMT) has won a missile defense contract that could be valued at up to $2 billion. The contract calls for at least 42 interceptor missiles for the U.S. military.

Dollar General (DG) has priced a secondary offering of 30 million shares at $46.75 per share. That size of the offering is larger than the 25 million shares the retailer had previously indicated it would sell.

Abbott Labs (ABT) makes the watch list, as competitor Roche says a trial has shown its arthritis drug performed better than Abbott’s best-selling Humira in reducing symptoms in rheumatoid arthritis patients.

Nokia (NOK) has unveiled budget-priced touchscreen handsets, in hopes of carving out a niche in that market and catching up with its rivals.

Novartis (NVS) says a final stage study shows its Ilaris drug helps reduce symptoms in childhood arthritis patients.

Ancestry.com (ACOM) is considering putting itself up for sale, according to published reports, and is already working to find potential buyers.

Chesapeake Energy (CHK) is reportedly in advanced talks to sell most of its pipeline assets for more than $4 billion to Global Infrastructure Partners, according to Bloomberg News
J.M. Smucker (SJM), Navistar (NAV), Comverse Technology (CMVT), and Lululemon (LULU) are among the companies set to report quarterly earnings this morning.

Clothing retailer Men’s Wearhouse (MW) is a stock to watch this morning, after missing estimates by two cents with first quarter profit of $0.53 per share, excluding certain items. It also issued a disappointing outlook for the second quarter, saying its corporate apparel business is being hurt by cutbacks in company spending.

Ruby Tuesday (RT) says Chairman/CEO Sandy Beall, who founded the restaurant chain, is planning to step down after 40 years. The company has begun a search process for a replacement, and Beall plans to stay on until a successor is named.

General Dynamics (GD) Chairman/CEO Jay Johnson will retire at year’s end.  President and Chief Operating Officer Phebe Novakovic will succeed Johnson in both roles when he steps down on December 31.

Tuesday Morning (TUES) says CEO Kathleen Mason has been “relieved of her duties” as President and CEO of the retailer. The company did not give a reason for the move, but says it’s begun a search for a new CEO and expects to complete the process within a few months. Executive Vice President Michael Marchetti has been promoted to President and Chief Operating Officer and will also serve as interim CEO.

A federal judge says Chesapeake Energy (CHK) does not need to delay its annual meeting scheduled for Friday. Some shareholders had sought a delay to allow more time for investigation of the company’s financial dealings with CEO Aubrey McLendon.

Molina Healthcare (MOH) has withdrawn its full year earnings guidance because of uncertainties about rising medical costs in Texas. The health insurer’s stock dropped about 11 percent in after-hours trading on that news.

Walt Disney (DIS) says it will not sell its DVDs to rental outlets like Netflix (NFLX), Coinstar’s (CSTR) Redbox, and Blockbuster until 28 days after they go on sale.  Disney had previously allowed Redbox to buy DVDs the same day they went on sale at both stores and online. Redbox is responding by saying it will buy those videos through “alternative means”.

June 5, 2012 - RECALL Election and SMART Politics

 "Tonight, the citizens of Racine County voted for checks and balances in our state legislature. I look forward to working with my colleagues in the state senate,” said John Lehman - Racine. Wisconsin.
==============================================================

MILWAUKEE (MPA) - The day after "Recall 2012 in Wisconsin".  The rancour will recede and Plan B and C will take shape.

Congratulation to Candidate John Lehman, Racine, Wisconsin for reclaiming his seat.
Congratulation to the other side of the isle - Democratic majority.
Congratulation to all who have been allowed the privilege of working as a state public servant for the people of Wisconsin by winning.
===================

Kathy Demet, 48, of Sturtevant, Wisconsin who is on disability said, “When you are a poor person, like on disability, you have to vote for people who let you live. Walker wants to take all that away from people.” Journal Times.

For the People, it is a great time for assessment of sustainability - an evaluation to prepare for the re-purposing of the BIG VOTE in November, 2012 for Candidate Barack Obama's election.

It means a walk toward SOLIDARITY.
It means linking with the URBAN population in a way never before seen - a powerful whip - if mobilized.

It means All Hands on Deck.
African American, other People of Color and the Work-Challeged (un-, under-employed; un-, under-degreed and certificated; un-, under-financed neighborhood-level business; disabled; and re-entry - especially those returning from WAR, INCARCERATION, BOOMERANG EMPLOYMENT, BOOMERANG RETIREMENT and DEGREED students without employment) were NOT engaged in the ELECTION on June 5, 2012  - in part, due to alienation and lack of shown results that affect quality of life and economic development.
 They were for eight (8) years discriminated against - jobs outsourced to neighboring counties by Milwaukee Metropolitan Association of Commerce, Greater Milwaukee Committee and the Milwaukee 7 contributed to both  Candidates Scott Walker and Tom Barrett; discriminatory reports by DWilson report, Federal Reserve Case study report along with many many more, Candidate Tom Barrett failed to appear at the May 2, 2012 Wisconsin Black Chamber of Commerce debate;  failed takeover of Milwaukee Public Schools, crushed 9-5 work pay referendum to name a few - yet asked to support the candidate that disenfranchised them and have done "0" to advance them and their families.

Candidate Scott Walker and the Republican Party failed to reach out to the critical mass of People of Color (3/4 of population) and emonized the city - the city that failed to support as county executive and is now as the governor.
===================

Being more informed - access to vote, awareness of how to vote and what is needed to vote; and, passing it on for massive ground-swell.

Being at the table from the jump-off.
===================

Milwaukee Professionals Association supports INCLUSION of African American, other People of Color and the Work Challeged.

Yesterday's lack of support at the ballot box speaks to why the Democratic Party or any party must be inclusive and respectful to ALL.

Schacknow - TODAY'S PRIMER , June 5, 2012

                                Peter Schacknow, Senior Producer, CNBC Breaking News Desk

Though U.S. stocks are showing signs of stemming recent losses, the markets are not yet showing any inclination to rally. The S&P 500 and Nasdaq did break 3-session losing streaks with modest Monday gains, but the Dow is coming off four straight losses and has only chalked up four winning sessions in the last 23.

The May ISM non-manufacturing index is the only government economic report on today’s calendar.  That number – out at 10am ET – is expected to come in at 53.0, slightly lower than April’s 53.5.

The day also features three Fed speakers, spread from morning until evening.  Dallas Fed President Richard Fisher has a 7a ET speech in Scotland, St. Louis Fed President James Bullard speaks at 2:15pm ET in St. Louis, and Chicago Fed President Charles Evans addresses a gathering in New York this evening at 7:15pm ET.

The earnings calendar is once again very light, with only a handful of smaller companies scheduled to report.

Starbucks (SBUX) is a stock to watch today, after announcing it was buying San Francisco based Bay Bread, the company behind the La Boulange bakery brand.  The deal will mean that Starbucks will offer La Boulange baked goods at its stores.  The deal may have spillover effect for competitors like Panera Bread (PNRA).

Dollar General (DG) beat estimates by three cents with first quarter earnings of $0.63 per share, with revenues also above consensus.  But the retailer also announced a secondary offering of 25 million common shares, putting the stock under pressure in the after-hours session.

FedEx (FDX) has increased its quarterly dividend by one cent to $0.14 per share.

Goldman Sachs (GS) reportedly laid off 50 employees last week, according to the New York Times.  The paper says a number of those employees were managing directors on the higher end of Goldman’s pay scale.

Bankers for CBS (CBS) are said to be gauging interest in the company’s outdoor advertising business, according to the Wall Street Journal.  CBS is hoping to draw bids as high as $6 billion, according to the paper.

Wynn Resorts (WYNN) CEO Steve Wynn says Wynn Macau’s latest resort in Macau would cost $4 billion, and he is expressing confidence that the property will be a successful investment despite the current economic climate.

Hotel stocks like Marriott (MAR), Starwood (HOT), FelCor (FCH), Hyatt (H) and Gaylord Entertainment (GET) could draw some buying interest, after analysts at an industry conference said they expected more hotel-related deals this year.

TiVo (TIVO) is countersuing Cisco Systems (CSCO) over alleged patent infringement relating to digital video recorder technology.  Cisco had sued TiVo last week to void those same patents.

WHITE HOUSE - Equal Pay for Women, Raising Awareness

WASHINGTON, DC - Do you support equal pay for women?

It's been nearly 50 years since Congress passed the Equal Pay Act, but today a woman who works full time still earns just 77* cents for every dollar earned by a man.

That's not just unfair. When women, who make up nearly half the workforce, bring home less money each day, it means they have less for the everyday needs of their families. That's bad for kids, it's bad for communities, and it's bad for the entire country.

So President Obama is supporting the Paycheck Fairness Act, which is designed to update the Equal Pay Act of 1963 and help close the pay gap. Congress is scheduled to vote on the legislation this week.

To help raise awareness of pay discrimination and make it clear that it is a problem with serious consequences, we've put together a series of e-cards to highlight the issue.

Pick your favorite, then email it to your friends or share it online:

PEOPLE of Color and the Work-Challenged left out of the RECALL Narrative - Yet, there is the desire/expectation that they support the RECALL

Representative Kessler and Representative Fields
The Milwaukee Delegation - Wisconsin Legislators
MILWAUKEE(MPA) - Saturday Evening - As we round the turn and head for home, the finish line, Tuesday, June 5, 2012, Tom Barrett and other Democrats are counting on - NO, they expect African American, other People of Color and the Work Challenged to support an agenda that says one thing but excludes.

Look at the video clips, look at whose leading the charge, look at who is not in the video clips - look at who is not LEADING the charge.

The call is for collective bargaining, that means those who have the jobs?
The call is for the Middle Class, those with the jobs.
The call is for teachers, those with the jobs.  Since Scott Walker use divisiveness in the erasure of collective bargaining, police and firemen are exempt - again, those with the jobs.

The individuals without the jobs and not considered Middle Class are treated as if they are INVISIBLE,  and by-design left out of the "talking points" for a better and growing state of Wisconsin.  Specifically, they are African American, other People of Color and the Work Challenged (un-, under-employed; un-, under-degreed and certificated; un-, under-financed neighborhood-level business; disabled; and re-entry - especially those returning from WAR, INCARCERATION, BOOMERANG EMPLOYMENT, BOOMERANG RETIREMENT and DEGREED students without employment).
====================

In fact, they have not been mentioned.
When the "WE" word is used, it is NOT talking about African American, other People of Color and the Work Challenged - not in critical mass as they are Caucasians and the few People of Color that have markers for "personal gain".

Until the "WE" everywhere understand that injustice for one is injustice for all, we will have to  remind the numbers to be.  It is a moral and economic fact.

Remind them.  Tell them.  Call them.  Email them.  Write blogs about them.

Do your constituents count?

African American, other People of Color and the Work Challenged, why are you sitting quietly?

Let your elected officials and the Milwaukee Delegation know that they like Scott Walker are "DISSing" you - and, that's not acceptable.

Scott Walker "Diss" Milwaukee - Has he completely lost it?

                                                      Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker

Nothing in the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity.
Martin Luther King, Jr.
======================

MILWAUKEE(MPA) - Scott Walker, governor of Wisconsin, has used the following comment while visitng Quad Graphics in Sussex (a company that has a history in getting resources from the City of Milwaukee to maintain/operate/expand and grow):

"We don't want Wisconsin to become like Milwaukee," he said, adding that he wanted Wisconsin to help troubled cities in the state.

I will lay odds he is going to regret that statement.
======================

The problem with Walker's statement is that his comment is like the suburban John that comes into the city seeking a thrill and the next morning demonizing the woman he praised the night before.

He assumed office as a result of the Recall for Tom Ament, Milwaukee County Executive.
During Walker's administration, he prepared to run for the governor of Wisconsin.
He froze and stripped departments and programs.

His claim to fame included "balancing the budget".  Tell me, what good is balancing the budget and the county services are in the toilet?

County employees were forced out and services went lacking big time - even pools closing in the summer.  Scott was ducking and dodging and refusing to be accountable - refusing to respond to inquiries - just as he has in his office in Madison as governor.  It took his Secretary of Commerce, Paul Jardin, 3 months to say nothing - to fail to answer the questions asked by Mary Glass, Chair/CEO, Milwaukee Professionals Association.

Governor Walker seems to have little to no shame - December, 2011, he and his son showed up at the annual Salvation Army and WMCS 1290 Christmas dinner to feed the public and got a position to serve food - very transparent Scott.  It was at the Christmas meal that Glass spoke to the governor and reminded him of the disingenuous act of his being there before the families, many without employment and other quality of life issues; when she had been trying to get a response from him for over 11 months  to help those of the audience.

Walker has orchestrated his failed leadership into a corner, little to NO SUBSTANCE.
Looking at the debates, he has been practicing with the "tipping and talking" points - no matter how false and half-truth they may be.  Tis the season, if I say the lie enough, it will stick with some people.

His failure to lead properly and ensure that the structures of the Milwaukee county were safe, is said to be the cause of McDonnell Park Parking lot falling and a young man losing his life.
                                           Tim Russell - ex-staffer of Governor Walker

I remember shortly after Walker took office, his handlers were very protective of Walker, one was Tim Russell.  Another young man just out of the University of Wisconsin worked closely for about a year  or so - then he was off to some mellow position in Washington, DC.

I mention this because of the "distance that Walker seem to be trying to make" regarding the folk that are getting the screws that helped him.  People acting as close as his skin but he did not know of their wrongdoings.

 Back to the disparaging statement about Milwaukee, his lack of leadership, not burning bridges, speaking as an unwise person but most of all, speaking and dismissing over a half-million people.  This is the man that speaks of his children in school in nearby Milwaukee.

Why would the governor "dis" the largest city?
Why would the governor "DIS" the iconic city that link the benefits.
Why isn't he talking about what he is doing to raise the "banner" high?

Since taking office, he has progressively gone over the top in his behavior.

Governor Walker appears to be trying to make Green Bay the NEW Milwaukee for the state.
His NEW transformation of the Department of Commerce and his new secretary (from Green Bay) appear to have been clueless in how to engage business entrepreneur of Color.

It is not the city of Milwaukee , it is the past county executive non-leadership by Scott Walker and others elected-appointed-hired-volunteered and donor for hire took but refused to give back.

It is irresponsible to make the statement, to "DISS" Milwaukee, Governor Scott Walker!

TOM BARRETT Endorsement - What's the Deal - Did you forget to Deal?

MILWAUKEE(MPA) - In the May 19, 2012 edition of the Milwaukee Courier, there is a half page ad for Tom Barrett, Democrat for Governor. Along with Candidate Barrett are 9 African American elected officials that ask for support of Barrett. They are:
  • U. S. Congresswoman Gwen Moore, 4th District
  • State Senator Lena Taylor, 4th District
  • State Representative Jason Fields, 17th District
  • State Representative Barbara Toles, 17th District
  • State Representative Tamara Grigsby, 18th District
  • Alderman, 15th District and Common Council President Willie Hines
  • Alderman Willie Wade, 10th District
  • Alderman Ashanti Hamilton, 1st District
  • Alderman Joe Davis, 2nd District
=========================================

This is the year of CHANGE.
This is the year of "political will and savvy".
This is an Election year that can bring tsunami changes if we are smart and engaged in strategy agreements - to re-define, re-brand and UN-TRAP a half-million Milwaukeeans.

This is an Election year that can completely REMOVE the status quo of Enduring Concentrated Poverty in Milwaukee with the right "MIND-SET" in local, state and national offices.

This is an Election year that African American, People of Color and Work-Challenged (un-, under-employed; un-, under-degreed and certificated; un-, under-financed neighborhood-level business; disabled; and re-entry - especially those returning from WAR, INCARCERATION, BOOMERANG EMPLOYMENT, BOOMERANG RETIREMENT and DEGREED students without employment) individuals must be about cracking-the-the-"Whip", NOT to be Whipped".

This is an Election year about LEADERSHIP, not DISMAY.
This is an Election about standing up to both the RIGHT and LEFT that fail to be INCLUSIVE of African American, other People of Color and the Work Challenged at an INFRASTRUCTURAL level.

What has Candidate Tom Barrett put on the table, in a plan of agreement for accountability, that African American and other People of Color can get excited about? We have had the false promise, bait-n-switch, divide and conquer and failure to fulfill his promises for 8 full years.

Generic promises are part of Etch-n-sketch politics to get votes - just like promising a few African Americans positions that have NO - ABSOLUTELY NO power in his administration.
======================================

Endorsement
We know the Democratioc Party will ask for endorsement and support - We know that the 9 African American elected officials mentioned in this article are attempting to show solidarity.

My concern is:
  • What have U.S. Congresswoman Moore, State Senator Taylor, State Representatives Fields, Grigsby and Toles, Alderman/Common Council President Hines, and Aldermen Davis, Hamilton and Wade "NEGOTIATED" for the people they are elected to serve in the Enduring Concentrated Poverty city of Milwaukee that they can hold Candidate for Governor Tom Barrett accountable of?
Are they, the 9 above, to be viewed, as seen in the past, African American elected officials trotted out with facial and verbal endorsement that only equals to little to NO endorsement of better quality of life and economic development for their constituents?

This year's political season will not embrace politicians seen as paying back markers that are weighted in "personal gain"?

Oh, I know that the team spirit is necessary.
Oh, I know that one hand deserves the other.
Oh, I know the party-gaming; but, I want to know WHAT HAVE THEY bargain to completeness and specificity with Candidate Barrett?

In view of the fact that Tom Barrett for the last eight years have openly and consistently discriminated in his own "divide-and-conquer" strategies against their dominate constituency of People of Color in Milwaukee.

Since we know that each elected official is to represent all of its constituents, all races. We are negotiating for those who have been "by-design" left out of the deal-making as evidence by frequent case studies, reports and extreme high UNEMPLOYMENT.

We seek an equal playing field, we can/will take it from there.

U. S. Congresswoman Moore, State Representative Grigsby and Alderman Hamilton are three of the endorsers for Barrett that "opposed" the takeover of Milwaukee Public Schools by Candidate for Governor Tom Barrett.

To the contrary, Senator Taylor and Alderman/Common Council President Hines were supporting Barrett. Since we do not recall outspoken actions of State Representative Fields and Toles or Aldermen Davis and Wade, we are not sure of what their position was.

For the 9, We the People, need to know if they have jointly garnered a WinWin strategy so that if Tom Barrett is elected, our public school system will remain in tact.

For the 9, We the People, need to know specifics in the first 100 Days to change the dismal DWilson study and exclusion of African Americans and People of Color in economic development.

For the 9, We the People, need to know that Barrett will not get the position in Madison and "continue to disc the People and City of Milwaukee - as Scott Walker, present governor has.

For the 9, We the People, need to know if it will continue to be Tim Sheehy, Julie Taylor, Gale Klappa and the clan - Greater Milwaukee Committee, Bradley Foundation, Milwaukee Metropolitan Association of Commerce and Milwaukee 7 that will be pulling strings for running the state of Wisconsin as they have successfully done in Milwaukee; or is it the Greater Milwaukee area.

In Barrett's 2004 Inaugural Speech, he talked like he is talking now - that was/is not what he did.  It is why the broad support of Mlwaukeeans are not rallying behind his campaign.

Schacknow - TODAY'S PRIMER - Special Currency Trade Edition, June 1, 2012

                           Peter Schacknow, Senior Producer, CNBC Breaking News Desk

U.S. stock investors welcome the month of June today, though prospects for profits remain highly uncertain.

The final numbers for May were anything but bullish: the Dow suffered its biggest one-month drop since May of 2010, while the Nasdaq saw its biggest point drop since October of 2008.

The May employment report is the focus of Wall Street this morning, with the 8:30am ET release expected to show non-farm payroll growth of 155,000 and an unchanged unemployment rate of 8.1 percent. April had seen an unexpectedly low 115,000 nonfarm jobs created, though investors will be watching carefully for any revisions.

The jobs report has some competition for attention this morning, with April personal income and spending figures out at the same time.  Income is seen rising 0.3 percent for April following a 0.4 percent increase in March, while consumer spending is expected to match March’s 0.3 percent advance.

At 10am ET, the Institute For Supply Management will issue its May manufacturing index, expected to drop to 53.9 from the April reading of 54.8. The government is also out with April construction spending numbers at the same time, with consensus forecasts calling for a 0.3 percent increase following a 0.1 percent rise in March.

We’ll also get U.S. sales figures from major automakers throughout the morning.  Japanese automakers are likely to post outsized increases, because of year-ago manufacturing slowdowns related to the March 2011 earthquake.

Retailer Charming Shoppes (CHRS) is one of only a handful of companies scheduled to issue quarterly earnings this morning, with no reports scheduled after the closing bell this afternoon.

Wal-Mart (WMT) will be a stock to watch in the days ahead, as the retail giant holds its annual meeting in Fayetteville, Arkansas.  Despite the controversy over the alleged bribery scandal in Mexico, the stock has been trading at its highest levels since 2000 in recent days.

Sara Lee (SLE) is seeing some buying interest, after its board approved both the spinoff of its international coffee and tea business and a 1-for-5 reverse stock split.  After the spinoff, shareholders in the new “CoffeeCo” will get a $3/share special dividend.

We’ll watch shares of Oracle (ORCL) after a judge dismissed copyright claims against Google (GOOG) over parts of Oracle’s Java programming language. Oracle has been seeking about $1 billion in damages, but that number will be sharply limited by the ruling.

Shares of casino operators like Wynn Resorts (WYNN) and Las Vegas Sands (LVS) will be on the watch list after Macau casinos reported gaming revenue growth of 7.3 percent in May, the slowest expansion since July 2009.

Nokia (NOK) is denying claims by Google (GOOG) that it’s colluding with Microsoft (MSFT) to use their patents to hurt smartphone industry rivals. Google has filed a formal complaint with the European Commission.

BP (BP) is considering a sale of its stake in TNK-BP, Russia’s third largest oil producer. A sale of BP’s 50 percent stake in the venture could raise around $30 billion.
