Pas De Duke and Night Creature - Alvin Ailey
Alvin Ailey's PAS DE DUKE from Alvin Ailey on Vimeo.
First Look: Ailey Returns to The River
“I always loved Duke Ellington’s music, but I really got into the man when I got to know him. He had a regular work schedule that was amazing…When I was working with him on The River, I spent a week with him in Toronto, living at the same hotel. He used to knock on my door at four in the morning, asking, ‘Are you ready to work?’” —Alvin Ailey
Alvin Ailey’s The River (1970) marks Duke Ellington’s first symphonic score written for dance. “The Rivershows Mr. Ailey at his inventive best,” declared The New York Times. See the new production when it returns to the repertory this season, including when it is performed with two other Ailey/Ellington works: Pas De Duke and Night Creature.
