An attempt to defame the name and character of Rep. Elizabeth Coggs

Milwaukee – On Monday, July 30, 2012, the Journal Sentinel PolitiFact Wisconsin posted that We Are Milwaukee are blatant liars when it comes to their truth-o-meter.

The primary election for sixth district State Senate is heating up. A few weeks ago, a campaign flyer with a picture of Gov. Scott Walker, Republican, referred to Rep. Elizabeth Coggs, D-Milwaukee, claims "millions of dollars in tax breaks" were paid for "by busting unions, cutting BadgerCare, and raising taxes on the poor and the middle class, thanks to Elizabeth Coggs' help.

The flyer is said to be paid for by a political organization, “We are Milwaukee”, an anti-Scott Walker group, which was registered with the Governor Accountability Board in March 2012. The said organization wants the public to believe that one Democratic Assembly member, Elizabeth Coggs, is working with the Governor and the Republicans.

The front of the flyer says: “we need leaders who will stand up to Scott Walker.”The back of the flyer list three Assembly bills (AB3, AB11, AB40) during the 2011-12 budget sessions, which they falsely claim Rep. Coggs voted in favor of. This occurrence is an attempt to smear and destroy Rep. Coggs name and character in the media before the August 14, 2012 primary election. The motivation behind this flyer is still unclear, but if one was to guess, I would say they really don’t want her to win.

On Wednesday, July 25, 2012, Rep. Coggs held a press conference to call for a clean campaign and for her opponents and their handlers to stop the lies.  “This is clearly a lie, let me repeat that, this is a lie.Not only did I oppose Act 10, but I stood on the floor of the Assembly in my orange t-shirt battling  Scott Walker while Senators Spencer Coggs, Lena Taylor, and other Senate Democrats bravely delayed the vote for as long as they could.I also opposed Scott Walker’s state budget,” said Rep. Coggs.

Alderwoman Milele Coggs said “as a resident of the 6th Senate District I was disgusted at anyone who chooses to lie, distort and misrepresent information to the voters for the sake of a win.”
Senator Lena Taylor said “Representative Elizabeth Coggs is very vocal about the interests of Milwaukee and a fighter for this community in the Wisconsin State Legislature and speaks the truth; I stand with my endorsement of Elizabeth Coggs as the next Senator of the Sixth District.”

As said before, the primary election will be held on Tuesday, August 14, 2012. Rep. Coggs is facing four other opponents in her race for sixth district State Senator.

"No Taxation WithoutRepresentation"

Milwaukee– It’s funny how a complex examination of redistricting and elections can betrivialized and reduced to an out of context comment about "looks."Much has been made of a comment I made at a recent community meeting, whenasked about the division within the Democratic Party. I have shared my concernswith the party and my view/opinion may not be popular with others. I understandthe history of the battle for our community's representation, my mother MarciaCoggs was this state's first African-American State Legislator; her victory wasnot easy and it only came with the support of the community.

Every 10 years during redistrictingthere has historically been a lot of vigorous debate about representation, except this time, because of the secret and divisive process used by theRepublican Party. A civilized debate could have been held in appropriate placesuch as caucus or on the assembly floor rather than a community meeting orthrough sound bites in newspapers.   Andin these particular debates the concerns of underrepresented communities couldhave been addressed.

In the 1980's there were fourAfrican-Americans out of 99 representatives for the state, and currently we haveeight. That doubling of representation happened through thoughtful discourse, hard fought elections and even lawsuits requiring that districts be reconfiguredto give communities of color the greatest opportunity possible to elect aperson who best reflects the interests of the demographics of that district.

The Democratic Party itself recentlyfought a legal case against the map designed for the state and ultimately won, resulting in forcing the state to reconfigure south side districts.  And it is my opinion that in this electioncycle we could return to 1980’s level of representation if we do not vote and notto mention that this would be a disservice to our ancestors and the fight andstruggle they went through to increase representation for our community.

Moreover, my comments were not aimedat any one person or district, just at reminding our community about thestruggle those who came before us to get the representation levels we currentlyhave and how important it is for us never to forget that. Ultimately, the Voterswill decide who they choose to represent them, my hope is that norepresentation is lost for our community and the best people win so that we canwork diligently to address the needs of our community.

MILWAUKEE (MPA)
MONDAY Morning, July 30, 2012, the latest update on the Can-Do "bottom-up" economic engines from the 190 neighborhoods of Milwaukee is the announcement that August is Communication month.

We know that INNOVATION is a key part of its creation. Likewise, we know that in order for it to truly change the physical infrastructure of the city of Milwaukee, it is important that stakeholders-stockholder-shareholders-taxpayers are in the loop for all communications.

African American slaves in the United States were "innovators" during a time they were forbidden to talk, read and travel; and under threat of being severely beaten, sold and/or lynched. They still had to "rise". So, they put in place, 1) Grapevine (word-of-mouth); and the, 2) Underground Railroad (routes and safe network).  The Grapevine was shared talk/discussion for information sharing. They were also able to escape slavery and travel through the underground railroad network to freedom. Their stategic planning, channel development, risk management and quality control efficiency can and will be used as 2012 tools to set in place and build a bottom-up affluence.

Join us
We will seek resources (newspapers, blogs, newsletters, block clubs, neighborhood strategic planning, business improvement districts) at the neighborhood level to be aggressive and to be innovators in putting in place the networks.

Let's get to work.

Dear Friend,

With balance restored to Wisconsin's Legislature, it's time for committees to get to work on furthering bipartisan, job-creating initiatives. Continue reading for more information about the newly restructured committees.

I also encourage you to find me on Facebook and Twitter for timely updates on legislative activities.

As usual, please feel free to contact me with any questions, concerns or opinions you may have about our community or our state.

  Sincerely,
  Chris Larson
  State Senator, District 7
 ==================

Roadblocks to Work
The public has spoken loud and clear.   They want balance and integrity restored to Wisconsin. Just last week, I joined my colleagues on the Senate Floor completing the transition of power within Wisconsin’s Legislature. In order for us to get Wisconsin's economy moving in the right direction, we needs leaders that are willing to show up and do the work. I am proud to say we finally have those leaders.

Senate Democrats will hold public hearings, conduct meetings, and call   upon the governor to hold a special session to turn back the extreme policies that have led to job losses for our state. Such efforts must be continued until our family, friends, and neighbors are no longer desperately hunting for jobs.

I look forward to working with legislators on both sides of the aisle in   public hearings and special session to ensure taxpayer money spent on   economic development is being invested wisely on programs that will create immediate jobs for Wisconsinites. By working together on the issues facing our state, we can once again get Wisconsin on track towards   economic prosperity.

Committees have been reorganized and were announced earlier this week.   While it is possible that some adjustments will be made, the committees I have been appointed to are reasonably firm. Please continue reading for more information about the new committees to which I have been appointed and the goals we hope to accomplish through bipartisan efforts.

Joint Committee on Review of Administrative Rules
I have been appointed Co-Chair of the   Joint Committee on Review of Administrative Rules, a committee comprised of five senators and five representatives. This committee is codified in Wisconsin's statutes and tasked with ensuring that our state agencies are correctly interpreting and implementing our laws to reflect the   intent of the legislation.

Through this committee, we will also   strive to increase accountability and transparency in our state, including more accurately tracking the effectiveness of job creation   efforts. I have been reaching out to fellow committee members of both parties and am eager to work with them on these challenging endeavors.

Joint Committee on Finance
I am honored to be appointed to the Joint Committee on Finance, the most prominent committee in the Legislature. Comprised of eight senators and eight representatives, this committee was statutorily created to monitor the finances of the state and allocate funding to the various agencies.

Because of the continued financial crisis our state and the rest of the country has been experiencing, our tax dollars need to stretch further than ever. Therefore, the overarching goal of Joint Finance will be to make wise investments with state funds to ensure citizens are not being held responsible for failing programs or ineffective projects. Further, we need to promote   greater accountability and transparency for the agencies, businesses, and individuals that continue to receive state funds. This committee can also be a vital catalyst for job creation to help rebuild and renew our currently stagnant economy.

Joint Legislative Audit Committee
Another committee I will be serving on is the Joint Legislative Audit Committee. As required by state statutes, this committee of five senators and five representatives is a strong instrument in making sure our taxpayer dollars are used appropriately.   By requesting audits, this committee is able to take an up-close, thorough look at state program efficacy and determine whether they fail or succeed. The results of the audit then drive committee recommendations for timely changes of Wisconsin's state programs.

One of the priorities of this committee will be to examine the concerns recently raised about the potential mismanagement of the new Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC). Additionally, the Audit Committee will want to examine best practices for increasing economic development in our state.

Senate Committee on Education and Corrections
After serving on the Senate Education  Committee during the 2011-2012 Legislative Session, I have once again been appointed to the committee, which will focus on holding public hearings on legislation affecting K-12 students and schools, as well as correction-related issues.

Many neighbors have expressed great concerns over the state of our community schools. The harsh reality our children and schools are facing is a direct result of staggering budget cuts, a loss of one-time federal dollars, and the siphoning of funds away from our neighborhood schools and directed towards a growing number of unaccountable schools.

Unfortunately, things are not expected to get any easier during the upcoming 2012-2013 school year. According to a survey done by the Wisconsin Association of School District Administrators (WASDA), most school district in Milwaukee County expect to make the same or deeper cuts to balance their budgets for the next school year, with only one of the 18 school districts in Milwaukee County reporting that they expect to make fewer cuts next year compared   to this year.

To ensure we are making the most of limited financial resources and providing quality education to our children, I look forward to working on enhancing accountability and transparency measures for all schools that receive taxpayer dollars, including public, charter, and voucher schools.

Senate Committee on Environment, Natural Resources & Tourism
I have also been re-appointed to the Senate Committee on Environment, Natural Resources & Tourism. During the   most recent legislative session, I fought to protect our investment in Wisconsin's natural resources, as tourism dollars help keep our state's economy headed in the right direction.

Many concerns remain and were not adequately addressed during the most recent legislative session. I hope that we can work together to further examine these troubling issues:

*  Increased efforts to privatize hunting in Wisconsin

*  Growing concerns about the lack of  enforcement of pollution controls that can result in poisoned drinking water.

*  The crippling impacts of climate change on our tourism and agricultural economies and workers in those industries.

The efforts of these committees to create immediate jobs, further economic development, and increase accountability and transparency can only succeed with bipartisan support in both the Senate and the Assembly. Therefore, I hope that we can all band together to produce truly bipartisan policies that gets the Wisconsin we all know and love moving forward.

Competition vs. Collaboration
Milwaukee and Chicago--two cities   that have much in common, including lakeside geography, heavy industry, and a   struggle for a role in the emerging global economy. Today, Chicago ranks among the top 10 global cities, and Milwaukee is rapidly becoming the freshwater capital of the world. This, however, has not always proven to be enough to set them apart from their global competition. China alone has 30 cities that are bigger than Chicago and 100 bigger than Milwaukee. In an economy that rewards collaboration, Milwaukee and Chicago remain in competition, risking irrelevance.

To try and get Milwaukee and Chicago   moving on a path towards symbiotic success, discussions have recently begun to address a stronger regional approach and potential cooperative partnership between these sister cities. On July 17, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel and the Marquette University Law School kicked-off the conversation between the two cities by holding a conference called "Milwaukee's Future in the Chicago Megacity."

The agenda of the conference was based on a recent territorial review published by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development. This review encompassed the Chicago tri-state area, a 21-county region that includes Milwaukee, Chicago, and northwestern Indiana. The organization condemned the current rivalry between the states arguing that it prevents any real cooperation to increase mutual economic prosperity. One economist even commented that he had never seen such "hostility" toward neighbors as   displayed by these state governments.

Click here to view video from the conference.

Many agree that the quickest way to bring these cities closer would be to connect them better physically with a fast rail link. This infrastructure investment would allow residents of one city to work in the other and also allow businesses to work together more efficiently. Unfortunately, Milwaukee's attempts to pursue such an endeavor have been repeatedly blocked, including when the most recent budget dissolved the Southeastern Regional Transit Authority along with three other authorized Regional Transit Authority groups.   This action effectively halted plans to build a commuter rail line that would link Milwaukee to Kenosha, Racine, and surrounding suburbs. The planned Commuter Link would have offered 15 round trips each weekday, promoting commerce and development, attracting   future businesses to the area, raising property values, and providing   our workforce with a means to get to and from their jobs. Additionally, federal aid would have covered most construction and operating costs.

In addition to connecting the two cities by rail, the Chicago Chamber of Commerce also wants to create a Tri-State Alliance for Regional Development. This group would gather civic and business leaders from the region and begin the process toward broader cooperation. Other suggestions include an initial project that focuses on Milwaukee’s specialty--water. Linking researchers specializing in water from universities in Milwaukee and Chicago could create a standard of best practices. In an increasingly dry world, anything the two cities do to establish themselves as a freshwater hub   would benefit both. Ideas like these could enable both cities to leverage their combined strengths, so they can better thrive in this   increasingly global and competitive economy

SANCTIONS and Heavy Penalities given Penn State - Will University of Wisconsin receive the same fate

MILWAUKEE (MPA) - July 27, 2012, three days ago, Mark Emmert, President - National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) shared sanctions for Penn State University as a result of the recent probe/investigation and scathing report released this month, July 12, 2012, by former FBI Director Louis Freeh.

NCAA sanctions included:
  • $60 million fine - Endowment for prevention of child abuse around the nation. (equalvalent to 1 year gross revenue of Penn football program)
  • Penn State Football team banned from Bowl and Post Season Play - 4 years.
  • Penn State initial Scholarships reduced from 25-15 scholarships per year - 4 years.
  • Football students are allowed transfer for competition with appropriate eligibility.
  • Football students may remain at Penn State and receive appropriateness as long as academics are in order.
  • Vacate all Wins for Penn State from 1998-2011 (equal timeframe of knowledge of incidents).
  • Penn State Athletic Association is placed on Probation w/Academic Integrity Agreement (5 years).
    • Creation of an Integrity Compliance Council, Integrity Monitor and quarterly monitoring
    • Board of Trustees adopt reforms from Freeh Report - Chaper 10, 5.0.
    • Integrity Monitor selected by NCAA with reports to the NCAA, Board of Trustees and Big Ten Conference quarterly.
"In the Penn State case, the results were perverse and unconscionable. No price the NCAA can levy will repair the grievous damage inflicted by Jerry Sandusky on his victims," Emmert said, referring to the former Penn State defensive coordinator convicted of 45 counts of child sex abuse last month.

"Four of the most powerful people at the Pennsylvania State University — President Graham B. Spanier, Senior Vice President-Finance and Business Gary C. Schultz, Athletic Director Timothy M. Curley and Head Football Coach Joseph V. Paterno — failed to protect against a child sex predator harming children for over a decade,” Louis Freeh.

The investigation was engaged November 12, 2011 and delivered July 12, 2012 by the law firm of Freeh, Sporkin & Sullivan, LLP.  It is reported to have taken 8 months and cost $6.5 million dollars.

The scandal that has mushroomed into a TSUMANI cloud has engulfed many lives and now at the beginning of massive damage control, risk managment, quality control, consent decree and settlement for healing. It will take a while for closure. There are still levels of fallout that will take on civil and criminal charges.

As a matter of fact, Emmert and the NCAA Committee left a window open in the Consent Agreement with the Board of Trustees for Penn State that allows further investigation and decison making by the NCAA that could be more punitive actions. The sanctions includes the governance, leadership and operations of Penn State as an academic institution first and foremost, with a credible athletic department.  The announcement by Emmert spoke of the tragic harm to the victims and how there was no real compensation.  That the sanction with specific expectations is to put in place standards based in trust and integrity.

The threat of a "death penalty" for Penn State was the game-changer for the university, the removal of football for possibly 4 years ($240 million).  The reported average gross income of Penn State annual revenue for the football program is $60 million - the sanction would of included the shutdown of a football team for possibly 4 years.

The Freeh report also said that Penn State had "decentralized and uneven" oversight of compliance issues -- laws, regulations, policies and procedures -- as required by the NCAA.
====================
Corruption
We see how a "culture" of too big to challenge and fail at Penn State was created.
We also see how a small group of powerful insiders supported by big bucks funding and funds ignored in "lockstep and cover-up" the egregious acts of Jerry Sandusky and others for over 10 years.

These were suppose to be upstanding, ethical, powerful, highly respected and well-known pillars in the community.  We see how greed, lack of integrity, lack of monitoring and oversight and disregard for the students in/outside of the university that were preyed upon, their parents, their families and friends and the community at-large were disregarded.

We see how the corruption, the lies and marketing of corruption has affected so many.
We see how many lives have been destroyed, dreams deferred and the structure of TRUST diminished.

What happen to high standards, quality control, risk management and customer care?
What happen to INTEGRITY and the standards of Penn State as a higher education site?

University of Wisconsin
The University of Wisconsin Board of Regents, University of Wisconsin System President Kevin Rilley and University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee Chancellors (Dr. Michael Lovell and Dr. Carlos Santiago), Provost Johannes Britz, past provost Rita Cheng, cabinet, faculty, staff and foundations have a similar critique of "lockstep" disregard for inclusion of African American and other People of Color of Milwaukee. The basic wrongdoing is a closed culture of Discrimination.

There is a failure to honor roles and responsibilities for compliance of State Statute 36, the U.S. constitution and bylaws that promote civil-legal-human rights.

Eight (8) key examples of use of federal funds and government resources but fail to include African American and other People of Color in the city of Milwaukee are:

University of Wisconsin Milwaukee BILL 514

The bill, approved by both the Wisconsin State Senate and Assembly, released state capital building funds for four different UWM expansion projects at a total anticipated cost of $176 million:

-- Construction of a School of Freshwater Sciences research building ($50 million) Targeted for the downtown Milwaukee waterfront, this building will be the home for the UWM School of Freshwater Sciences that the State Legislature and Governor Doyle approved in 2009.

-- Construction of a Kenwood Integrated Research Building ($75 million) To be located at or near the northwest corner of Kenwood Boulevard and Maryland Avenue, this five- or six-story building will house facilities that advance science, technology, engineering and math education; research; and outreach.

-- Acquisition of the Columbia St. Mary’s Hospital campus ($31 million) UWM remains engaged in negotiations to acquire and redevelop the 11-acre hospital property adjacent to the university’s current 93-acre campus.

-- Purchase of a replacement for the Neeskay research vessel ($20 million) A 120-foot research vessel capable of hosting larger scientific crews, conducting extended operations, and navigating research sites using dynamic positioning and state-of-the-art handling capabilities is proposed to replace the university’s Korean War-era transport-tug boat.
The secrecy is racially biased and color-coded because the People affected/victimized are African American and other People of Color - the individuals creating and maintaining the culture are Caucasian.

We seek accountability and clarity.
We Call for Investigation of the cancer of discrimination that runs wide from the elected-appointed-hired-voluntered and donor-for hire leaders of the state of Wisconsin.

Call for Investigation
On Thursday, July 26, 2012, Mary Glass, Chair/CEO, Milwaukee Professionals Association received a first response from the U.S. Department of Justice.  The "referral letter" was to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) for consideration of our Call for Investigation.  We see this as step two and look forward to massive and widespread reform.  Based on our findings so far, the widespread wrongdoing of oligopoly/monopoly connections will dwarf the Penn State investigation.

Call for Investigation of Discrimination by GLASS of University of Wisconsin Regents gets first Response from U.S. Department of Justice

WISCONSIN - Thursday Evening, July 26, 2012, Mary Glass, Chair/CEO, Milwaukee Professionals Association, announced this evening that their long-awaited 1st response from the U.S. Department of Justice regarding the Call for Investigation of University of Wisconsin Regents and University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee Chancellor and staff has been received with a referral to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

Glass contacted the United States Office of Justice, U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder office, back in March of this year for a Call for Investigation of widespread Discrimination against African American, other People of Color and the Work Challenged (un-, under-employed; un-, under-degreed and certificated; un-, under-financed neighborhood-level business; disabled; and re-entry - especially those returning from WAR, INCARCERATION, BOOMERANG EMPLOYMENT, BOOMERANG RETIREMENT and DEGREED students without employment).

Contact of the U.S. Office of Justice was after the office of State Attorney General JB Van Hollen said his office's hands were tied; and, the office of Governor Scott Walker and other notables refused to respond.

The Call for Investigation referenced a year and a half contact by Glass to the UW Regents, University of Wisconsin System President Kevin Reilly, University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee Chancellor Michael Lovell for noted wrongdoings that included:  refusing to meet, violation of State Statute 36, refusal to honor the Public Information law, conflict of interest, bias selection of Chancellor Lovell, discrimination and culture of exclusion of African American, other People of Color and the Work Challenged.

Our 5-year SmartGrowth Signature Plan (2005-2010) observation looked at Code of Conduct by elected-appointed-hired-volunteered and donor-for-hire representatives that ask for, spent and/or monitored government funding on behalf of Milwaukeeans; and, how their behavior contributed significantly to Enduring Concentrated Poverty in the iconic city of Milwaukee.  Our contact over the years have been extensive contact with our top leaders in Wisconsin.  The list includes:
  • Governor Scott Walker
  • State Attorney General JB Van Hollen
  • Leaders of the Senate and Assembly
  • Milwaukee Legislative Delegation and other legislators
  • Wisconsin Board of Accountability
  • Secretary Mike Huebsch - Department of Administration
  • Wisconsin Board of Regents
  • University of Wisconsin Foundation
  • University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee,  Research Foundation
  • University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee Real Estate Foundation
  • University of WI System President Kevin Riley
  • University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee Chancellor Mike Lovell, Provost Johannes Britz, cabinet, staff
  • University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee Past Chancellor Carlos Santiago
  • ex-Governor Jim Doyle
  • University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee Alumni Association
  • County Executive Chris Abele - Milwaukee County
  • Milwaukee County Supervisors
  • Mayor Tom Barrett - city of Milwaukee
  • Common Council President Willie Hines - city of Milwaukee
  • City of Milwaukee Common Council
  • Milwaukee Area Technical College - Board
  • Milwaukee Area Technical College - President
  • City of Milwaukee School Board - Milwaukee Public Schools
  • Milwaukee Public Schools Superintendent
Unfortuantely, the above leaders failed to provide "a response" or they gave a perfunctory "thanks but No thanks" response to look into the Call for Investigation at their level.

The correspondence to the Office of Justice was dated March 28, 2012.

Glass is optimistic and said, "We know this is probably protocol; but, I am most thankful that we have been assigned a Reference number, email address and contact number to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) for our next step."

"We will use this great first response-referral opportunity to the FBI as a message to continue seeking signers for the Sign-On Petition for U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder to launch the investigation".

Strengthening Words of Comfort to Ed Shultz and wife, WENDY

Ed Schultz announces his wife, Wendy, is battling ovarian cancer
Ed Schultz made a devastating announcement on his radio show on Thursday.

The MSNBC host, who has been absent from his radio and TV show for the past week, announced that his wife Wendy was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. Speaking to his guest radio host Mike Papantonio, Schultz said that he and his wife had been "through the wringer."

"It's been a real jolt to say the least," Schultz said. "It shakes you to your bones. But she's a tough girl, and she went through surgery yesterday. The doctors feel like they got all of it...but we've got a long way to go."

Schultz added that he's going to be gone from the air for some time. "Doing a radio and a TV show isn't exactly what I'm thinking about right now. I'm going to be with my wife thorugh all of this," Schultz said. He expressed his gratitude to his radio show team and everyone at MSNBC for their support.

"You lose track of time, you lose track of what you're doing, and everything changes," Schultz said while choking up.

"Ed Show" guest host Michael Eric Dyson repeated the announcement during Thursday's MSNBC show.

2012 Olympics - HOLA!

Despite popular misconceptions there is no link between the ring colors and a continent, the colors simply came from those colors that appeared on all the national flags of the world at that time. The five-ringed symbol "represents the union of the five continents and the meeting of athletes from throughout the world at the Olympic Games." Baron Pierre de Coubertin conceived both the symbol and the flag. Not coincidentally, Coubertin was the founder of the modern Olympic Movement.

Symbolism of the Olympic Rings:

The five interlocking rings represent the five continents brought together by the Olympic Movement, or the five main regions:
  • Africa
  • the Americas (North and South America are combined)
  • Asia
  • Europe
  • Oceania.
As it says in the Olympic Charter, the five-ringed symbol "represents the union of the five continents and the meeting of athletes from throughout the world at the Olympic Games."

The symbol of the Olympic Games is composed of five interlocking rings, colored blue, yellow, black, green, and red on a white field.

The colors of the rings represent the flags of the countries that participate in the Olympics. Every flag of a country participating in the Olympics includes one of those colors.

Congresswoman Lee Introduces Bi-Partisan Resolution Calling for Continued International Cooperation to Combat HIV/AIDS

Contact: Kristal DeKleer

Washington, D.C. –  Congresswoman Barbara Lee (CA-09) introduced a House resolution expressing support for continued international cooperation to combat HIV/AIDS. The resolution was co-sponsored by Rep. Jim McDermott (D-WA) and Rep. Trent Franks (R-AZ) who are both co-chairs of the Congressional HIV/AIDS Caucus, and Rep. Howard Berman (D-CA), Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL), Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC), and Alcee Hastings (D-FL).

An estimated 34,000,000 people around the world are living with HIV, yet 1 in 5 individuals in the U.S. is unaware of being infected. The good news is that new HIV infections worldwide are at their lowest levels since 1997 and recent scientific advancements have resulted in revolutionary breakthroughs in the AIDS response. Significant disparities persist across different communities and populations with regard to incidence of infection, access to treatment, and health outcomes, and the resolution calls for the engagement of civil society as a critically component to any global strategy to end AIDS.  For more.

Schacknow - Today's Primer, July 20, 2012

Peter Schacknow, Senior Producer, CNBC Breaking News Desk
Wall Street is back on a winning track, at least for now, with the Dow, the S&P 500, and the Nasdaq all riding 3-day winning streaks, their first concurrent streaks of that length since early June.  All three are also on the verge of being positive for both June and July, something that’s not happened since 2003.

After a busy Thursday for both corporate earnings and economic stats, the calendar lightens considerably today. There are no major economic reports set for release, and Dow component General Electric (GE) is one of just a few companies set to release quarterly numbers. We’ll also hear from oilfield services companies Baker Hughes (BHI) and Schlumberger (SLB) this morning, as well as Ingersoll-Rand (IR), SunTrust Banks (STI) and Xerox (XRX). There are no earnings releases scheduled for after the closing bell.

Microsoft (MSFT) is a stock to watch today, reporting fiscal fourth quarter profit of $0.67 per share, five cents above estimates. That number excludes a previously announced writedown for the value of its online advertising unit.

Google (GOOG) is reporting second quarter profit of $10.12 per share, eight cents above estimates, with revenues very slightly short of estimates. But those revenues were 21 percent ahead of a year ago.

Chipotle Mexican Grill (CMG) earned $2.56 per share for the second quarter, versus estimates of $2.30. But its revenues came up short of analyst forecasts, as did an 8 percent gain in same store sales. The company says sales slowed in late April and that the trend continued through May and June.

Intuitive Surgical (ISRG) earned $3.75 per share for the second quarter, beating estimates by 19 cents. Revenues were also ahead of analyst forecasts. The medical device maker did, however, warn about the ongoing negative impact of Europe’s economic crisis, as well as a decline in prostate surgeries that use its surgical equipment.

Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) fell a penny short of consensus in reporting second quarter profit of $0.06 per share, with revenues in line with estimates. AMD, like its rivals, is battling global economic woes and a consumer shift towards non-PC electronic devices.

Pfizer (PFE) has won a court ruling upholding the validity of its patents for its best-selling pain medication Lyrica. That allows Pfizer to maintain U.S. marketing exclusivity for the drug through 2018. Generic manufacturers who were seeking to sell their own versions must now wait until that time.

Citigroup (C ) and Morgan Stanley (MS) disagree on the value of their jointly owned Morgan Stanley Smith Barney brokerage unit. The two exchanged appraisals as Morgan Stanley moves ahead with plans to add another 14 percent to its current 51 percent stake. A third party will conduct an appraisal, which could result in significant non-cash third quarter charges for Citi, which values the unit 60 percent higher than Morgan Stanley does.

Freescale Semiconductor (FSL) lost $0.14 per share for its second quarter, compared to analyst expectations of a $0.02 per share profit. The chipmaker did see higher profit margins but experienced a drop in revenue.

Yahoo (YHOO) has detailed its compensation plans for new CEO Marissa Mayer, who will get a package that could be worth up to $59 million over the next several years. That includes a $30 million retention award if she stays at the company for five years, and $14 million in restricted stock.

Apple (AAPL) has debuted its latest iPad in China today, after recently settling a trademark lawsuit with China’s ProView over the iPad name.

Two IPOs of note on today’s calendar: Palo Alto Networks (PANW) priced its IPO at $42 per share, above its recently raised range of $38 - $40, while Kayak Software (KYAK) priced its IPO at $26, above the projected range of $22 - $25. One IPO that won’t be happening – at least for now – is legendary guitar maker Fender, which has withdrawn its offering due to unfavorable market and economic conditions

HR Bill 676 - SINGLE-PAYER - What is it? WHERE ARE WE WITH IT?

MILWAUKEE & DETROIT (MPA) - Milwaukee Professionals Association is continuing its pursuit in "information sharing" and promoting the National Health Care Act in Urban Health Care.

Single-Payer - H.R. 676
Single-Payer, Expanded Health care for everybody has been sponsored by U.S. Congressman John Conyers (D/MI) has introduced the bill 41 times since 2003  CLICK history.

===========

Single-payer is a term used to describe a type of financing system. It refers to one entity acting as administrator, or “payer.” In the case of healthcare, a single-payer system would be setup such that one entity—a government run organization—would collect all healthcare fees, and pay out all healthcare costs.

Instead of the many thousands of billing agencies, insurance companies and HMO (A corporation that is financed by insurance premiums and has member physicians and professional staff who provide curative and preventive medicine within certain financial, geographic, and professional limits to enrolled volunteer members and their families) submitting cost, the number would dwindle to one and ALL would submit to one entity - this would cut out the administrative costs - different forms, billing systems and billing contact numbers.

Access and Benefits
Everyone would receive comprehensive medical benefits under single-payer. Coverage would include all medically necessary services, including rehabilitative, long-term, and home care; mental healthcare, prescription drugs, and medical supplies; and preventive and public health measures.

MILWAUKEEANS, especially African Americans must show Skin-in-the-Game, Personal Chattel

MILWAUKEE (MPA) - Now is the time for Milwaukeeans, especially African Americans to take lead and provide leadership that has stood the test of time.  To use the opportunities that are afforded at this time (yes. at this time), and maximize them.

No.  It does not take an army.
No.  It does not take wealth of funds for to scaffold the plan of determination and Will-for-Success.
It does take "willing-mines" of "like-kind" with a seriousness that our forefathers brought into the hell-foundness slavery they found themselves in.

It was the Will-to-Succeed in spite of the brutality, entrapment, no funds that our forefathers and mothers used in slavery, in bondage, that have allowed a race of People to "rise", to still "rise", and to still "rise".  If they could in mass not read or write, lived on plantations, were not paid for endless labor, denied quality of life and economic substance; I say get up.  I say get up. I say you African American get up.  Who are sitting ddown on.  They paid too much of a price.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. said, "how long"?
But, he then said, "Not long".

The not long depends on how the leaders step forward and ensure justice and to invest the means and way.

For it is then that the other things necessary for success will come into play.

Let's start with identifying and enhancing our assets.  What assets you say?
Our People, our Land, our history and our investments layered in the United States.

Let's start with enforcement of the laws that are on the books.
Let's start with valuing our accomplishments and not allowing anyone to demean them.
Let's start with not settling for the other person's bait-n-switch games.
Let's start now to choose honorable and trustworthy African Americans to fill UPCOMING elections.
Let's use our noggin (academic and practicum) and call upon the school of hard knocks for wisdom.
Let's start with taking our personal chattel (skills, gifts, mother wit, property, family values, stewardship, self-discipline, and belief that right out-trumps wrong) to identify "hidden talent" and create economic engines in our neighborhoods.

We have always been innovators, engineers, architects, scientists, service consultants, service providers, peace makers, disciplinarians, teachers, care givers, doctors, legal strategists, parents, and inventors.

Our problem has not been that "we would not do", it has been we have been prohibited from doing.

All Hands on Deck, WE, Not Me Initiative.  To redefine, re-brand and UN-TRAP African Americans, other  People of Color and the Work Challenged (un-, under-employed; un-, under-degreed and certificated; un-, under-financed neighborhood-level business; disabled; and re-entry - especially those returning from WAR, INCARCERATION, BOOMERANG EMPLOYMENT, BOOMERANG RETIREMENT and DEGREED students without employment).

Get your house in order, I will be back.  No one is exempt.
